I am trying to get my old Ford 4000 running again after sitting in the field for 15+ years. In the process of cleaning out the old varnished gas from the Marvel Schebler TSX-813 carburetor, I found that the power jet located in the bottom of the carburetor is missing. It has a 8-32 threaded hole. Can anyone tell me what size jet should be there? I used this tractors years ago, but it never ran quite right. I was never sure if it was a carb problem or a governor problem, but this may have been the culprit. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Welcome.

Good project.
I am sure someone on here can help with your tractor.

Welcome. I'm not much help, but I've seen you can get a complete rebuild kit on Ebay for less than $50, float included. Might be worth it after a 15 year sit.
I thought I've read before that the Marvel Schebler carbs were later replaced with another brand (Zenith maybe) because of performance issues? I could be remembering wrong. There are a few guys here very good with the old Ford tractors.

I already bought the rebuild kit, but it does not include the power or idle jets. Currently, the carburetor is clean, painted and rebuilt- just waiting to install the power jet, but can't find any info on what size jet belongs there.

Wish I could help. You might try posting this in the New Holland forum?? There are a few Ford genius' here. Sound Guy is one. He will see your thread if posted in the New Holland forum. Good luck. Be patient on here, might take a couple days before the thread "takes off".

Thanks for the link KYErik ! They do show a carburetor that looks like mine, but they do not show a power jet at the bottom of the carb in the diagram. In the parts list below the diagram they do list a #8-32x15/64 plug, but it is not referenced in the diagram. Is it possible that the hole should be plugged, or left open with nothing inserted? 2016-01-06 08_53_25-DSCN4675.JPG - Windows Photo Viewer.jpg

There are quite a few carbs listed on Ebay, maybe one of them shows a picture that helps. If the hole is tapped, it’s not meant to be empty.

I don’t know if this is the same model or not, but it shows some pictures that may help.

I also notice there are different “levels” of rebuild kits. Some seem to have parts that others don’t.
I agree, this would probably get more attention from the Ford experts in the New Holland repair forum. Not your fault, this place has entirely too many sections.

It may just be an inlet for gas to get down to the jets (nothing is missing). I can look at the outside of my carb tomorrow but I know there is a drain plug on the bottom.
