FORD 601 WORKMASTER W/ POWER STEERING.. ONLY 1014 HRS AND 5SPD DOUBLE CLUTCH

Detailed Description
THIS IS A FORD 601 (661 SERIES) WORKMASTER USED TRACTOR WITH ONLY 1014 HRS ON ORIGINAL TACH. IT IS A ONE OWNER TRACTOR, IT WAS BOUGHT FROM A 82YR OLD LADY WHOSE HUSBAND DIED LAST YEAR. THE 601 IS THE FIRST POWER STEERING, DOUBLE CLUTCH AND 5SPD WE HAVE EVER HAD IN 45 YRS OF BUSINESS. IT HAS 100% RUBBER, LIFT WORKS GREAT, AND IT HAS THE LIVE PTO THAT COMES W/ THE DOUBLE CLUTCH MODELS. THIS TRACTOR IS ABSOLUTLY SOUND MECHANICALLY AND THE BIGGEST EYE CATCHER ON THE LOT.

1962 661/PS/5spd/double clutch/1014 hours. If real it seems like the only thing missing is the 861 larger motor. Dealer put new tires and painted...not sure what else was done...obviously looks nice with new tires and paint...$6K.

What are your thoughts? The dealer rep that knows more about tractor out until Monday.

Might this one justify going a bit higher than the $3,500-$4,000 top price that seems consensus here?

Anyone in Farmington, KY that could inspect???

Thanks...Tom R

I would not pay $6K for any Ford built before 1965, period.

Or any Ford with outboard dry drum brakes.

Let somebody else fork over big bux for eye candy.

A while ago there was a fella on here that found one of them in a barn with similar low hours. It seems he had quite a bit of sour luck with that machine and was forced back to his 8n. I dont know if he ever got the 661 running properly. I might pay that kind of money for an 1951 or 52 8n with similar hours because I know they are a simpiler, more durable and fully-evolved model. It took Ford some time to work the bugs out of all them modern conveniences (live hydraulics, power steering, etc) and overhead valve engine. Never again did they dominate the market like they did in the days of the flathead 4-cylinder.

Hi Rick...I am looking for good value in a somewhat refurbished older tractor...not huge in size. You mention pot '64 when they went to the x000 series.

What early tractor would you look for in the $4,000-$5,000 price range as an alternative to the pre-'65 Fords??

Like I said...not tied to any particular brand or year...just want an updated early tractor in the less than $5,000 price range??

Thanks...Tom R

Where I went to school, $6000 was more than $5000, not less.

A three cylinder 4000 diesel or 4600 is several times the tractor that a 661 is. And often can be found in your price range. MF, Deere and IH also have models in that HP range with modern features for about the same money.

Thanks for the math lesson Rick :) I assume I could negotiate to $5K or or less or probably not be interested.

Are the Fords you mention and the other brands larger than the pre-'65 Fords?...that is my understanding. Seems like Ford kept pretty close to the 8N size category up to '64...not sure there after...thought they went larger at that point...Thanks...Tom R

yep.. a 6xx and 8xx are near the same as the 4 cyl pre 65 2000/4000

after 65 you got the 3 cyl larger 4000 .. for 6000$ you could even get into a beefy diesel 8spd 5000 with 70 hp.
