1956 Willys Pickup

I found a 1956 Willys 4WD pickup. I needs paint, and the engine (a Chevy Smallblock) is blown. I have a buddy who will put a good small block in it for $300 and another who will paint it on trade. Everything else is in very good condition

Should I pay $1000 for the truck?

$1K seems good enough ... I'd be wanting to know how the running gear is so I could figger in any gear rebuilding cost ...

The body looks to be in good shape in the picture. I would pay $1,000 just for a body that good on a rolling chassis.

Price is ok.

Check the frame, especially since it has the extra weight and torque of the Chevy in it. The frame is C-channel. All the Jeeps from '71 on back could really twist and flex. They liked to crack the frame right next to spring hangers.

Check the drive train out close(as close as you can for a non-running rig). Even a stock 283 Chevy puts out a lot of power for those stock axles and tranny. that were made for a flathead 4-cylinder.

Thanks, all! It really looks nice, and includes a Ramsey pto winch. We loaded her up. My daughters are researching colors and have already cleaned it up...

I'd love to go back to stock on the engine, but will probbaly put another small block chevy in there....
