That guy is way crazy. How in the world does he keep it from rolling? No way would I ever do anything like that!! (or would I?)

Great way to de-thatch the field though.

Don't try this and you should be fine.

Nope, the whole backend can jump and shudder. Go to a lower gear or less throttle, no jump.
Traction of load exceeds traction of tires at a given torque to the rear wheels, I think?

Okay. I get the whole thing is hopping. But it's got to mostly be BECAUSE of tire sidewall flex, right?

I stand by my lowly opinion, I don't think it has to do with tire sidewall flex. I have on occasion, made every tractor I have had hop in similar situations. Too high of a gear, too little traction and too much throttle. Hey you other tire hoppers, your thoughts?

i have had a tire spin on a loader tractor with heavily aired tires ( car radials in front, and new 13.6-28 rears that were aired up hard.. like 20 psi in a tire that normally runs 12.. etc.. ).

no sidewall flexing I could see.. i bet you could have MEASURED some.. but hard to see.

when I was running and a tire caught a softer spot on one side and that tire spun and then caught and again and again.. it made a bucking or bobbing that resulted in hopping on either side as both sides would then jump and spin.

application of steering brakes was then in order.. ;) poor mans diffy lock.. :)

I had wheel hop today trying to push a tree over. I was turning the tires a little over 1MPH. It definitely happens you turn them too fast.

Frank-N-Ford progress has been made.

New dash with SunPro gauges & VDO Tach are installed
New Throwout Bearing, Bell housing adapter and motor are mounted.
Front end is remounted so the tractor sets on 4 tires again.

Dash extension has to be profiled and drilled a bit to fit correctly.
Had to sawzall off outer crank pulley to clear motor bracket.
Of course now the water pump won't line up on the serpentine belts.. Time for an electric water pump.

Right tie rod hits bell housing adapter, have to see if I can bend it around to get enough clearance.

Click on the link below for the latest pics.

Dash motor front end mounted

Next tasks are to mount starter, all motor components and radiator.

This is fun.

Looking good! Can you just adjust the front track width a little wider to clear the bell housing adapter instead of bending the tie rod?

That might work. I will check it out. Thanks.

I was going to try that but I can't get the darn bolts out to adjust it.

I am going to the bend the tie rod rout. At this point, it seems the easier way to go. I spotted a few conversions on the web and I noticed the OHV V-8 conversions had bent the RH tie rods to clear teh bell housing adapters.

Hope everyone has a great & Happy Thanksgiving.

50% tranny fluid and 50% acetone. Shake well and apply.. Works better than any store bought penetrating oil. Might take a couple of squirts a day for a couple of days.
