First - Check your linkage that runs from the throttle.
Can you get it to start? When did it last run? Also lube all the pivot points to help smooth things out a bit.

Slip the pin out of the governor arm, and see if the rest of the linkage is free moving, from there back to the carb. If it is, it may possibly be the governor return spring (#7) is broken, or possibly thrust bearing (#23) behind the governor weight carrier assembly, has come apart, partilly disentagrated. (See and enlarge exploded view of gov. assy. below)

Semi-common wear items I keep in the shop. Although I was shocked at the now prices. Through IH, the spring is $9.30, and the bearing is right at $30.00.

I bought 4 ea. back in the 80's to keep on hand, as they were that cheap. Springs were less than $2.00, and seems like the bearing was around $4.00.

It may not be your problem, but on several of mine, when they will not throttle up past about 1/3, that is generarlly the problem.

If you do find this is the problem, be sure to look for the broken, or loose pieces. The ball bearings usually go to the oil pan, but...

#90 weight in the trans/finals/ etc.---some guys dump hyd oil in theirs but these tractors were NOT made for that kind of lubes.---seals will start leaking and after you go thru the whole tractor and put new seals and bearings in and dont run or pull the tractor much the hyd. stuff will stay in.---also expect the trans to shift hard---grind gears etc. and have very loud trans noise!---my 56 does and it came that way,--damage is already done, so I just keep running it and keep dumping hyd oil in it! thanls; sonny

May want to check out Farmallcub dot com, about every question you could have has been addressed there. It is a great site for CUBS. Also there are links to the manuals so you can view them and it will give you tons of info.

As for oil
Either HY-tran (as Soundguy stated) or 80-90 wt. gear lube will work. The early ones called for 80 weight, but later on Hy-trans was recommended - don't recall the years for each however
