My brother snapped a picture of his 1949 Farmall Cub in front of his Redwood Barn circa 1860... some boards are 20" wide on the barn...

The little Farmall is always a conversation starter when out.

He's thinking of using it around the Christmas Tree farm to pull an old wood hay wagon... all deal level with no hills or slopes...

In the 1700's, very wide boards like that, were called "King Boards", as they were supposed to be sent to mother England, rather than being used in the "colonies".
I have a 277 year old home on Cape Cod, and it has many 24"... "King Boards".
I guess they did not all actually get sent back to the King.

Interesting... always something to learn at TBN...

The barn was originally about a 100yds away and moved over a 120 years ago when the farm road became a county road...

I guess heart Redwood really does last at leash this one has.

We have talked about conservation adding a perimeter foundation... until then it has a couple of stalls for 4H projects and is home to the JD350 Dozer and the Farmall...

The newer stuff is in a equipment shed with one side open...

At the time my brother bought the place it was being advertised for land value and the barn and home and other out buildings were considered to have no value... he like the place and decided to work with what was there.

Something about old tractors that brings a smile to my face...

It starts easy with the crank and no smoke... about 400 hours ago it had a new old stock engine...

Hoping to have it around for many years...

Nice Cub. Mine was a 1948. Had great fun rebuilding the engine.

Nice, we used to use a 47 Cub and a Mott hammer knife belly mower to mow our pasture. That thing would go through pasture grass and weeds taller than the hood of the tractor. We also used a belly blade for plowing snow.

I think he is on the look out for local vintage implements to add...

Right now it is mostly for fun and to pull an old wooden hay wagon...

Had a chance to drive it around this afternoon...

It really is one sweet running tractor... a quarter revolution on the crank and purrs like a kitten...

Vintage tractors like these really are simple and reliable that stands the test of time.

Still can't get over how smooth the engine is... it's my only Farmall experience.

59 cubic inches with 10 hp but no slouch on power... if not speed.

Good looking old cub. I have an old Avery Model V that is very similar in size and HP to the cub. Tractor gets used in the summer for cultivating/hilling potatoes on our small scale farm operation. She smokes and rattles but still moves and does a great job on taking care of the potatoes for us.

What really impresses me is just how simple and reliable these older tractors are.

Almost 70 years and it brings a smile to all that see it... one pull to start and ready to go.

I'm guessing there will be around long after the new stuff with all the electronics...

See it all the time in medical equipment... as soon as manufacturer support ends most equipment is scrap...

My Grandfather bought a single cylinder Diesel crank start tractor back in 1949... it was the first tractor I had driven and got me hooked on tractors... would love to find one around here but so far no luck... lots of them still in Europe and becoming quite collectable... with a distinctive single cylinder sound.

I've got a 56 cub and I've put in a new battery and carb this season. Here is a pick of mine and a neat tractor I picked up for my grandson.
