My 1864 cub cadet only starts when higher voltage is applied from a charger. or if I disconnect the wire connector to the PTO clutch. Or disconnecting the voltage pod for the dash light. When starting the shut off pto light comes on and nothing but with over voltage it starts. Put in new pto switch and ignition switch per shop guy at my dealer. Still does same thing. Cleaned every connection and ground I can find. HELP PLEASE

suggest doing 2 things:
1) Take out batt - take to qualified shop that will run LOAD test right in front of you - replace if necessary. Start wwith know good power source.
2) if no normal start with good batt, use set of jumper cables to bypass everything and hook directly from batt to starter.PAY ATTENTION TO POLARITY DURING HOOKUP. TAKES 2 PEOPLE TO DO THIS. Engine throttle cracked 50%, Clutch/brake pedal fully depressed, PTO switch off, Operator sitting in seat, Ignition to run, Tranny to neutral, Choke as needed while engine is spinning to start when jumper cable connection is made.
Sequence of jumper cable hookup: one hot lead at batt + first, other hot lead + to starter post last (expect sparks).

If engine starts normally using above procedure, there remains an electrical defect in the start circuit, Either troubleshoot it yourself or find a different mechanic to fix it for you. Seems like last guy left you high and dry with mebbe an empty wallet ?
