1782 hydro acting up

seems like my hydro transmission is lazy or acting up. with engine at max rpm i move the f and r lever and all of a sudden it takes off. going in reverse it hardly moves, if i decrease engine rpms it works better. where should i start?

I hate to state the obvious... but, always start with the easiest thing first. Have you checked the fluid level?

Fluid level is fine. I am going to check the linkage today. I appreciate your input. This is my first Cub Cadet. I always operated the green machines. The dealers are hard to bargain with on these small diesel tractors.
