I was curious what type of hyd (open, closed) hydraulic system a 1720 has, and it's capacity? Would it work for running an orbit motor on, say, an auger, etc. Or best left to more intermittent uses?

I've used a 1720 with both a FEL and backhoe attached. With the backhoe, I actually had to set the engine at about 1500 rpm's, otherwise the hydraulics operated too fast. Don't think you'd have a problem with most hydraulic driven implements.

It is open center, off the top of my head, I'll say it is about 7 or 8GPM. If you run an orbit motor, return the oil directly to the rear axle, not through a valve spool, unless you need to reverse the motor. This prevents shaft seal damage from pressure spikes in the return line when closing the valve. There is a plug on the hitch valve that can be removed providing a zero pressure return.
