Massey Ferguson 1660
I have had my 1660 for around a year or so, and have been pleased so far. It just recently developed a habit that i wish would stop, about every 3rd crank or so it starts but im:confused3:mediately shuts back down. The dash lights go out just like i turned the key off. It will crank right back up and does fine. Is anyone else experiencing this with a massey cut?

I haven't experienced it with mine, starts fine and keeps running but mine has no hours on it yet.

Curious that the dash lights turn off, I bought the shop manual with mine but don't have it here with me. Have you gone through the starter circuitry to check connections for security / moisture etc?

I have checked all of them, it acts like the ignition switch itself is very sloppy and is shutting tractor back off.

That's a possibility, while I've read other manufacturers' tractors experiencing difficulty with their ignition swiches it usually related to moisture ingress on open station tractors.

I took the heavy dealer cast dealership logo off the keys I was given with the tractor, ever since having to replace the ignition switch on my '76 Monte Carlo many moons ago I've used leather for key chains.

I would tend to not believe this is moisture related, it is in a cab and the tractor spends all of it's down time in a climate controlled shop.

Is there enough weight on the seat? Mine had a similar problem with light operator on board. I finally disabled the seat switch, because it started doing it when I was driving (I weigh 250 lbs) when backing up.

I weigh 275, though I have never given any thought to the seat switch, I will look into it, Thanks.

Cannot be the seat switch, you don't have to be seated to start tractor.

Never tried it on mine, I thought having the protection switch was "standard issue". Might not be required for cab tractors? :confused3:

Quick look at the 1660 manual under troublshooting the only thing I see that makes sense that it might be is the neutral switch.
