I have a 09 MF 1643. I just now have a little over 50 hours. I have tried calling the MF dealer about filters numbers, but all they will give me is the Massey part number. The dealer is over a hour away. I need a filter number that I can cross reference and get the filters here. Can any one help?

NAPA may stock a filter for it; try them online or go to your local store. Their Gold filters are made by Wix and should be fine if they have the correct application for your tractor. I run them on my 1010. Good luck.

Have the filters shipped? Seems easier than wasting a bunch of time crossing them. 50hrs in 2 years seems like any price difference wouldn't come often enough to make a difference.

Unless you can find a guy at the NAPA store that actually cares about getting you the right filter and not just selling you something.

Hi. Maybe you can try on the WIX filter web site, they give the cross reference with your model of tractor , car, even atv. Good luck. Roger

We have had specialist from WIX and NAPA try to cross reference filters.

They could not. Your best bet is to have them shipped. You may find fuel filters and some of the engine oil filters some people have had luck in crossing, but using filters other than factory will viod your warranty.

I am an Electrician at a power plant and order parts on a regular basis. I did not even think about having them shipped for being so mad. The dealer I bought my tractor form does not sale Massey's anymore nor their parts. That was a big factor in buying the Massey, because the dealer was 4 miles away. Now the closest dealer is about an hour away.

Using a filter other than a factory filter, absolutely will not void your warranty.

You may need to try and obtain the specs for the factory filter, then do a match on specs with another filter manufacturer. Looks like Wix only lists a fuel filter for your tractor on their online lookup. Do a little digging and you'll probably find it.

You might want to figure out what other MF tractors use the same filter and try and cross reference them instead.....sometimes the filter manufacturers don't list the filter for all of its applications.

Ok, got my filter send to me from the dealer. Got them yesterday. Well I got an air filter for a cab I do not have, and no transmission filter. Got to love not having a dealer close.

Here is my next question for the 1643 owner, in the picture I attached is that where the transmission filter lives?

Also what is a good replacement for the Permatrans III?

Glad you got at least some of the filters you needed!

On the Permatran question, your manual may list the specs you need to match up for any other oil.

What your picture shows is just the trans. filter screen. It's really expensive to replace. You can just pull it out and clean it in a parts washer and use it again. It's just a metal mesh screen with pleats. The trans. filter is under neath just behind the front bumper. Climb under there and it's really easy to see. It should be a white spin on type filter. (my 1652 is the DynaQPS trans. so that's all I know. Your's may be different.

Thanks MF1652. I did not know it was a mess that can be cleaned.

Yeah the filter up front on my tractor is called a powersteering filter.

Are you looking for a cheaper replacement for the Permatran or a higher quality fluid?

Do the 1643's have spin on trans filters? I thought I read in my book that it was a filter that could be cleaned. I guess I haven't even check under my tractor to see if it has a spin on trans filter:eek:

If you have a power powershuttle you will have 2. One in front of the front axle which is a spin on and one in back that is cleanable. If I remember they call the front one a power steering filter.

I have a hydro and I will have to start looking into this. On the 1533 I owned, I could see the 1 trans filter right by the right side step.

The filter for the hydro should still be under the step, can't remember what side. The one above the front axle is for the entire system. It is one common reservoir.

Has anyone priced the Powershuttle filter in the belly, the cleanable one??
