1540 hydraulic filter

has anyone used the the wix number 51664 for the hydraulic filter ??? I read it on here somewhere that it would work ....thanks for the help bruce

As for the enthusiastic crowd remark, I didn't respond since I don't have a 1540. But I did some research and found my tractor uses the same filter as the 1540 so I measured mine to answer your question. Can't easily measure the diameter while it is on the tractor but if it were smaller it wouldn't seal. As for the length, it is the same as the MF dealer filter.

Friends --- I'm soon due for my hydro fluid change and was beginning to secure filters. My MF1540 hydro has 2 hydro filters--one under the left rail and 1 under the right rail of different size. The diagrams show the filter under the right rail perpendicular to the tractor axis. The left one runs parallel to the tractor and smaller that the other in height. I'be looked at the AGCO online catalog but don't see the left one mentioned anywhere. Any insight you can offer?

Baldwin BT443 should also fit but it is rated 5 microns vs 12 for the Wix.
I致e got the Wix on and it works great.
Not sure why the silent secret from the pros on this forum not to pass on this information ...

I will continue to use filters from the dealer that I trust are engineered correctly.
Every other year or so, I swing by the dealer and buy a few oil filters, a couple fuel filters and a new air filter.
Just because a filter "fits" does not mean it is the correct micron size, relief value, or flow value.
DON'T BE CHEAP!!!
The MF prices are very fair, in my opinion.
But,,, it's your tractor. Do as you wish.

It is a hydraulic , suction side filter, so there is NO releif valve.

I used a WIX filter. Not cheap.
For those of you who know nothing of filters , you probably will sleep better if you simply seek out the grey paint OEM filter manufactured by who knows who.

Very fair ?? I cannot say about the Hyd Oil filter for the 1540 but I can say that the MF branded hyd oil filters for my MF2660 are way beyond absurd. I bought the very first one for $75 in 2011 but that will never happen again. NOT FAIR in my opinion !! The MF filter number crosses to a NAPA which works just fine. The price was normal and I can't recall what it was, but NOT $75. I prefer hydraulic filters that are engineered to work well in ordinary, common world-wide circumstances involving hydraulic pumps, reservoirs and devices rather than to extract double or triple prices out of my billfold.
