How do you know when 4wd is engaged on the 1540?

I was trying to drive up a trailer ramp and kept spinning the rear tires. I ensured the 4wd lever was in the correct position. I finally checked the linkage and found that there was no pin where the linkage meets the shaft (or I assume a pin goes there since there is a hole). I inserted a pin but nothing changed.

Is there a way to test that the front wheels are, in fact, engaged?

Is there a linkage adjustment? Other levers (PTO, H/L transfer) seem to have a lot of travel and no positive engagement. Is this a 1540 thing, or are they all in need of adjusting? She is only 12 hours old...

You could nose it up against a large tree in low range and you should be able to see if the front wheels spin.

The pinhole may be a roll pin in the hole. If you can’t get to where you can see if good, it may look like there is nothing in it. When the lever is engaged, there should be at least one front tire pulling. Did you happen to look at both sides?
You shouldn’t have to adjust anything. If it is not working call the dealer.
Like Glenn said put it up against a tree in a low gear to see if the 4wd is working. There are other ways, but that is the easiest.
