Looking to buy first tractor/backhoe. Have 5 acres of forested land in Western WA State, and need for general landscaping, moving some dirt, minor road work etc. Found a 2007 1528 4WD with 1520 loader and 1570 backhoe, 105 hours, excellent condition with asking price of $16,000 (guy is selling to pay off balance as he lost his job). Says he paid $28K in May of 2007.

Is this a good deal??

Any help greatly appreciated!!

THANKS!

I was looking at the 1528 for the longest time, I realy liked the machine.
But after looking at the Kioti/Bobcat, the 1528 was over priced.

The 1528 is compareable to the C25 or C30 (CT-230)
Bobcat is running a special latley, I have seen prices around 11K for the
CT230 with loader, add a 5K for a backhoe and You are at the same price for a new machine that is heavyer and has a higher loader capacity.

I really liked the local MF dealer, and I really liked the MF 1528, but ended up going with the Kioti CK20 over the bobcat equal, because the the dealer (Wallace tractor) has great.

Another thought, if you by the used, you will not have a dealer loyalty (a dealer looking out for you), that would sway my judgement alot.

East of the Rockies more like 22-24k for new, but that is a very good price with those low hrs. and condition, I shopped that exact same unit, but went in a different direction. If your serious about Massey and that set-up, I doubt you'll do better.

Thanks Slack and Tom! .... Musta been a good deal cuz it was long gone by the time I called the guy on the only the second day of the ad. Took a drive today and stopped by the local MF and New Holland dealers....geez these things are expen$ive when new !! Still lookin. The John Deere's seem overpriced, and Kubota has too many models. Comparing specs, looks hard to beat the Massey's.

I realy liked the 1528, and when comparing it to the Kioti/Bobcat CK25/30 it was only 1-2K more, but that was last year!

in the last 3 months "most" Kioti/Bobcat dealers have slashed prices to try and move stock in these tough times, the MF dealers have not.

The CK30/Bocbcat CT230 are now ~5-6K cheaper than the MF 1528,
That tipped the scales for me. (even though I ended up going with the CK20)

LOL! We make less money 2 day then we ever did!
Good Tractors and good supports cost From The Top OEM'S
We Sell Mahindra and they are just like Kioti....Cheaper tractors with less support. Thats how they are cheaper!

We are all making less these days :)
As far as Kioti being Cheaper, in price yes, but the quality was every bit as good as MF, JD, NH), they ALL come from Japan or Korea.

As far as support - The local MF, JD, NH dealers would have a HARD time matching the support given by the Kioti dealer I purchased from, and a rougher time matching the support from Bobcat (they now carry kioti).

Im not talking price! Im talking parts -- teck --- and factory support. I.E. Agco Brands, John Deere, CNH, Kubota, are light years ahead with better dealer support over the other brands
This cost extra.

Got you on that, and agree, to a point.
I looked at Mahindra - good machines, but no large dealer-parts network.

My dealer is top notch (Rick Wallace) and knows the machines he is selling.
I realize Wallace is one dealer, but if he was to fold, Bobcats dealer support is 2nd to none, I have been in the building business 20+ years, Bobcat and Case are legendary for their support.
Bobcat took a year stocking their supply line with parts before they put them on the showroom floor, and I have 3 Bobcat dealers within 1 hour. but only 1 MF dealer. But I still prefer dealing with Wallace.

Dont get me wrong, I really really liked the 1528, but went with the kioti because they where equal quality machines, a couple thousand less, and 4 dealers stocked with kioti parts at hand.
