Hi all,
Wondering if anyone recommends cleaning fuel injectors vs replacing? Bud is a little hard to start and smokes for a few minutes. Planning to adjust valves and service everything before winter sets in.

The average home owner does not posses the tools to clean an injector.. they smoke on start up normally because the nozzle/tip dribbles fuel into the engine cylinder after the engine is shut down..
The pintle & body need to be lapped together, the injector body & nozzle body need to be flat lapped & everything torqued to the proper spec, THEN the pressure needs to be reset on a "pop-tester".. & checked for leakage & spray pattern..

Competent Diesel shop can check them out and rebuild if needed.

No problem but I would rather check with a local shop first and keep the original factory injectors, assuming they have a reasonable solution.

As far as I recall mine were fixed for around $35 - 40 each few years ago.

Maybe the price has gone way up since but it's still worth checking?

So after talking with local shop about symptoms, they recommended just running a heavier dose of silver bottle Power Service. Sending the injectors out would run $150-200, and replacements are only $60/ea, so I'm inclined to just go new if needed. I've been using the white bottle stuff already, but never used the "Diesel Kleen" version before. So I bought a jug and added a few ounces to the tank. Ran the tractor for an hour or so at ~2k rpm yesterday. I have a few projects to get finished up over the next few weeks, so I might be able to get through a tank.

I still need to get the new thermostat installed and adjust the valves.

what color is the smoke at start up?

Mostly white smoke, with a little blue for the first maybe 5 seconds. To me, that means a little oil burning off (probably valve seals) and unburned fuel.

That痴 what I thought was going on with my 1620, after a compression test I found I had blowby and a rebuild was required. You may want to look into your smoke trail a little closer.
