My neighbor is selling his tractor - he is asking $10k for it, but offered it to me for $7k. It has about 3200 hours, but looks great. He said it belonged to a golf course before he bought it and put on the loader. I ran it around and found the mower is seized, and it needs a new battery and all the fluids changed since it was stored in the back of his barn for the last 4 years. Otherwise it seemed great - is this a good price? What should it be worth? Should I look for anything in particular?

I am pretty excited about the possibilities this tractor brings with it. Some of my concerns however, are power - should be ok as I have a 23hp tractor now that serves me fine. The loader is another questionable point as I am not sure if it is too big for the tractor. It would be awesome though - specs say it will lift 1300lbs to 8ft. My last concern is mowing with it - I use my Kubota BX now - will mowing performance drop significantly? My gut says no, but figured I should ask.

Thanks,
Joe

Well, I have made a commitment to buy it on Monday. It makes economic sense since I can sell my Kubota in the spring and get rid of a payment. The BX has been a great tractor, but it would be nice to be able to lift 3 times as much two feet higher. The Ford also has nicer features than the BX - the feature I am most excited about is the position control valve. Maybe I don't understand what I am doing with the quarter inching valve, but it doesn't do what I would like it to without a bunch of fiddling. The extra 900 lbs and three range hst will be nice too.

The down sides shouldn't be that bad - the size is nice for everything but mowing and that accounts for about half of the hours that it will get used for. That means it will take a little longer to mow, but it still has the hst so it shouldn't be the end of the world. I am not too fond of the loader valve either - it doesn't let me do two operations at once.

All in all, I think this will be a good deal.

can't beat the price although hrs are high, sayig that, but it appears most might be highway hrs with not much wear and tear. I'd feel a bit better with gear tractor vs HST but if it is well taken care off then not much to worry.

Price is right and hope it turns out to be a great tractor as it specs much better than a Kubota BX.
