Drained the hydro fluid, got about 6 gal. It was a dark brown, not filthy though. I stuck a hooked shaped tool inside the hole while it was draining and scraped around and was able to pull a black sludge out.
Now the super happy news I’m psyched out of my mind about. In both rear differential drains there were chunks of steel that appear to be gear teeth. I have no idea what they are from, but this is obviously not good. There is orange permatex on the top access cover. I’m hoping that means they opened it up and made a repair, although I don’t think much can be fixed from there. Worst case it is the differential lock or the 4wd gearing that self destructed. What is odd, is there were no strange noises and all the gears worked.
Removing the quick disconnect as there was a leak here where the QD went into the block. Had to use this shorty adjustable wrench to get them off as it is tight quarters.
Wanted to change the O-rings in the QD, but none of mine matched from my kit. Will see what tsc has in stock.
While I’m at tsc I will be getting some hoses. This hose leaks around the swivel. There is another one that is cracked real bad. I really should change all the loader hoses as they look original and most are cracking. There’s no leaks though, so I’m afraid to monkey with them.
Got my injectors back. They look terrific...but...I’m not happy. When I sent them out I left everything on them. When they came back I was missing the crush washers and heat shields. The crush washers I knew weren’t going to come back as they are a consumable. The heat shields are another story. I called Oregon Fuel Injection and they could not find them. I figured, OK...it’s a small stamped sheet metal piece...how expensive could it be. Checked Messicks and these things are $17.50, and I need 3 of them! Lesson learned, strip your injectors down before mailing them out for rebuild.
Opened up the rear transmission access cover. It had no gasket and was leaking, so I got a gasket for it. More importantly, I tried to find some clues as to where the metal chunks came from. Didn’t see anything in here. The only thing that is visible is the 4wd engagement gears anyway. To see into the differential it appears I would need to remove the 3 point hitch actuator body. Think I will use the tractor for a bit before I venture into that fray.
Changed the hyd filter. FYI, the filters from Messicks are cheaper than the Napa filters. I almost choked when they told me how much they were.
The radiator installed back on the frame with a new anti vibration mount.
Used a marker pen to highlight the shift tree pattern for my old eyes.
New block heater came in, was $20 delivered. This Kats model is a 40mm, 400w and fits perfect. The bolt that holds it in never really felt like it got tight, and I was afraid of over tightening. Once I felt a bit of resistance I stopped.
I removed the press relief valve to change the O-ring as it was leaking. I may have to take this off again latter depending on how the press reading comes out when I put a gauge on it. If it’s low I will have to add shims here.
Spent a few hours last night tinkering. Need to get this thing out of the garage before the snow starts flying.
Installing my new suspension seat bushing in the front pivot of the seat scissor. These were from McMaster carr and are actually longer than the NH bushings and half the price...a win, win.
Installing the roller bearings from McMaster carr on the rear seat suspension scissor. The old steel bushings were rusted up and wearing the shafts away. These bearings were half the price of the steel bushings from NH, and of course make the seat suspension much smoother. I would recommend this mod to anyone with one of these suspension seats.
Seat top plate installed.
My $79 eBay seat installed. It’s very comfy and has lots of cushion. The seat back is lower than stock, but it’s fine with me.
Finally got my injector heat shields in the mail. Found these on the net for half the price of Messicks, complete with retro packaging, which I thought was pretty cool. They fit perfect.
Also, received my new hyd hoses for the loader control valve that were leaking. I used surplus center as they were cheaper and better quality than tractor supply. At some point I need to replace all the loader hoses, I think they are originals from 85 or so.
Rebuilt injectors going in with new heat shields and sealing washers. The sealing washers are flat on one side and rounded on the other, put the flat side against the injector.
Injectors installed and torqued to 50 lbs ft. Used soapy water around the injector boss and looked for bubbles while spinning eng over, checked good.
Intake going on with new gaskets, stud, and lock washers.
