I have a 1500 2wd that I purchase last year and found out that it has burn't pistons. I purchased a T1520 so going to get rid of 1500. Question is it worth more as a whole or should I part it out? Other than the piston the tractor is in great shape. Looks as it has been garage kept.

My suggestion is to remove the head, do a valve job, take the oil pan out and do a partial overhaul (piston change) without further dis assembly. That should make a worthwhile project if the rest of the tractor is in good shape. How did you come up with the idea of burnt piston?

JC I bought this tractor on ebay. When I got it home it was blowing oil so I took it apart to rebuild. I have the tractor apart and considered going ahead with rebuild but when I bought my T1520 decided that didn't want to fool with it. Both pistons are burn't but the rest of engine is good.

Pig in a poke , aye:( I suppose parting it out will bring you better money only got to find right buyers and that might be while. A salvage yard has a much better opportunity to make good money as time is on their side. Sorry for your misfortune, I hope you did not shell out a bunch to get it.

JC is right. You would be very lucky to come out ahead in the short term by parting it out. If you have the time, you can do pretty well.

I guarantee you that the sum of the parts is worth a lot more than the tractor if you get hooked up with the right buyers.

I think that I can get my money back out of it. The tractor came with a woods L59 finish mower so that should bring a little money also. Maybe will ebay although I never have sold anything on there.

Will parts on the 1500 interchange with models close to it such as 1700?

The 17XX series is at least one, maybe 2, frame sizes bigger.

I don't know how much would interchange but the best chance would be when the XX is same, 1500 and 1700 etc.

Two different engine displacements, 500 lbs of weight difference, two different size chassis.. Don't think it'll be too compatible. Some gears might be the same but who can correctly catalog it and make it worthwhile endeavor.

Thanks for the information. I traded in a 1300 when I bought my t1520 and I knew the engine was a little different than my 1500. The frame and rear wheels looked to be the same. I am glad I found this website there is a lot of good people and information here. Thanks
