15 foot Howse cutter

Looking at an older model Howse batwing cutter. Does anyone have any experience with this cutter? It is older, heavier constructed machine.

Not the batwing, but my cousin had a 5' and currently has a 6' Howse. And, we both have a 6' Howse finish mower. The older Howse stuff seems to be solid, almost over-built.

As with any used cutter, the most important components are the gear boxes. I would caution you that the "splitter" box for just about any flex-wing cutter will cost several thousand dollars to replace. Perhaps even more than you paid for the cutter. Also remember that you could be looking at a few hundred $$ just to replace the blades and bolts. And, all of those U-joints and driveshafts take a beating on a flex-wing when mowing uneven ground.
