I do believe you'll need to remove the top cover. If the pin is broken, doubt you'll fish it back out that hole, and more than likely, the pump will drop. If you don't have a service manual, most definitely get one. There are some parts you need to disconnect on the control quadrant, when lifting it off, or you will cause some damage. If you have a hoist of some sort, it will make the job a lot easier. Then again, you may be able to do it by removing the cover the dipstick is located in. That's why it would be best to have a service manual. Even an I&T should show, & explain how to do it, although they can be rather sketchy, unless they have improved over the years.
I bought a Massey 180 about 10 years ago, and had that problem. I needed to get into the tranny to fix another problem anyway, so repaired it then. I had an OEM service manual for it, and it explained the procedure step by step.
Since you have the part number, you might try doing a Google search, and compare prices. Lots of aftermarket parts out there. You'll just need to compare shipping, to see if you're really saving any money.
And, yes, that is what the pin looks like.
