He did explain. For this newer model tractor I need the RE45864 filter, the other is being returned.
As to the coolant, he said the tractor will be fine without it for now. He did recommend Deere antifreeze for the future, when they return the big tractor I will have them bring a gallon.

I bought some from my dealer, I think it was in a 2 or 2.5 gallon jug and was mixed 50/50 with water. So all you have to do is pour some in.

"pour some in"
I can do that..
The big tractor is at the service shop, just got a call that it may need a new/rebuilt injector pump & injectors. Between keeping current about computers and tractors, I seem to have not much time left in the day....Thanks to all for your inputs.

As I am now in charge of maintaining both tractors, I was going over the manual to see what else needs doing. I could not find some grease fittings on the 5055e(4wd) front axles. And I looked at the cooling reservoir, it was empty. Should I put fluid in it? I do have some Prestone concentrate antifreeze/coolant I can put in it.
Thanks for inputs.

That's probably because there aren't any anymore. In other words, there used to be grease nipples there but they've been removed and the Owners Manual hasn't been updated. The same thing happened with my 4105... I looked everywhere for the nipples on the front axle.

The next time I happened to be at my dealership I asked a mechanic (there was a 4105 on the lot) and he looked too. Nothing there, so he inquired 'up the chain'. Yep, they'd been removed as an 'update/improvement' to the model. He also pointed out two new nipples on the FWD/REV pedals that weren't in the Manual.

Thank you for that information. I have gotten pretty good at spotting grease fittings but could not figure out why I could not find these.
BTW, the coolant reservoir is empty and I will not have the JD product for at least a week. Can I run the tractor lightly with no coolant in the reservoir? The Deere service man said it will be ok, my neighbor says it will not be ok.

As long as the radiator is full to the top you should be ok.

If it's low, add some distilled water. Keep track of how much you add, then add that much concentrate to the reservoir later to maintain 50/50.

"As long as the radiator is full to the top"
It only took a stepladder and the operators manual to find the radiator cap. And the radiator was full. Amazing how long it takes (me) to do seemingly simple things with a tractor.

I think your parts man sold you two filters because he didn't know how to read the parts diagram that showed two filters for two series of serial numbers. You'll need to add some hydraulic oil afterward; something about the location of that filter allows a lot of oil to gush out when the filter is off.
I advise using John Deere pre-mixed coolant/anti-freeze.
If you're losing coolant and your 5055e has a cab, check the hose clamps on the lines going into the cab. I had to chase those leaks for several months when my 5075e was new. Luckily there was snow on the ground most of that first winter so the leaks were easier to identify.
