Never hooked up one of these beasts before. The one I have keeps spinning at either end of the cycle with a LOT of torque.I'm afraid when I get it hooked up,it'll do some damage to the mounts. What do I need to tame this sucker down at the end of the strokes? Two wire motor with I assume no potentiometers built in.

You could put switches on both ends of travel to cut power limiting travel to just before the hard stops. Don't know how much load it has, to much might lead to short switch life, then again maybe not?

Most actuators have built in adjustable limit switches. Have you looked inside the j-box or does it have one? Otherwise it's like js5020 said. What type of actuator do you have? I've never found one long or quick enough for my application.

The actuator is an I.E.I. LACT6-1000B. 1000lb load/3000lb static model with ball screw drive and built-in overload clutch. No limit switches or potentiometer.Must have one helluva clutch.I couldn't hold it from spinning with channel locks on the bench. The ebay seller called me back and said it will stop turning when it's mounted to substantial mounting brackets.Lets hope so.I'm building a power angle setup for the snowblade on my GT(4ft blade).

If you install a Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT) spring loaded switch with a center off you would be able to manually control the operation of that actuator.
After all it is a DC motor, and reversing polarity will reverse direction of travel.

I use a geared 12DC motor to rotate my snow shute in that manner.

I would believe that your actuator would be fairly slow in order to develop that power, so manual control should be fine.

The only limit might be the amps drawn as most switches don't like to be fed more than 10 amps, however I have seen 20 amp rated ones.

Good luck
