Guys, do your homework, research is your friend. I can't stress this enough. Some manufactures use inferior 8k axles, poor paint, and light weight everywhere. You get what you pay for. I repeat...some manufactures use inferior 8k axles, study this part well, you will see what I am talking about.

IMO if you are buying a deckover gooseneck go ahead and get the 10k axles and give yourself some room for expansion, I have a 25+5 gatormade pierced frame deckover gooseneck with 2-10k axles with 17.5 super singles and I really like it verses the dual tandems, the only downfall of my trailer IMO is that it is heavy, probably overbuilt which cuts down on payload, also as someone said these new tilt deck trailers are really nice for loading and unloading construction equipment daily, I have been looking at the kaufman with 8k axles myself. good luck.
Thanks. What you're suggesting would be great except it would push me over 26k and I don't have enough payload to handle that heavy of a trailer.

10-4 I have a Class A CDL because I needed it before I retired , but I have never been stopped or questioned down here in Fl. Are they tough on business/farm trailer owners where you are?

I'm hoping not to find out. I started another thread a few weeks back about CDL and deciding what equipment to run based on not having to run out and get one. I have a full time job that I don't intend to leave while I'm starting up my company with my wife. We're both 55 years old and I would prefer to keep the operations and equipment small enough not to have to worry about CDL. I don't know how stringent they are in TN. As I research, I am discovering more and more things related to towing and hauling that I thought I knew but really didn't have a clue about.

Are you looking at 16k goosenecks or 16k bumper pulls?

Thanks. That’sa little heavy for my excavator. Wouldn’t be able to keep it under 16k.

Keep in mind, any pin weight will be subtracted from the trailer gvw. Also, most published tare weights don't include options. In order to scale a 12k excavator, the trailer will need to weigh around 5k, or more to be up to the task.

Don't under estimate your 2500 Ram, it is a serious truck. You might consider a dump trailer. They go hand in hand with an excavator.

My 18k gooseneck dump (7'x16'x3') is 6k empty, so 6k+12k is 18k, minus 2k on the pin, you are good to go.
