Can anyone offer any input regarding this 12 volt Chainsaw?

Is it junk, is it OK, is it a beast?

TIA!

I've been looking for one of those for a while, or several other brands. Can't find one up here where they were made. Too many people in the NW think anything less than a 4 foot bar is a toy. :)

I'd like to make a bucket-mounted pole saw.

Tensen also made a 2-speed electric winch with good reviews.

I can't wait to fire it up, I should have it in a couple of weeks. I found a couple of reviews and there promissing. A complaint about the switch but a writer says it can be found and replaced. It is going to be beautiful, attached to my log splitters 12Volt Die Hard Car battery, for the ocassional trim necessary before splitting...I'll make a perfect lil holder for it, HA! :licking:

I bet it will work pretty well, However it will eat your battery pretty quick. I am not sure if your battery is being charged all the time by the splitter engines electrical system or you just charge it at home and take it with you, but the plate on the saw I think says 565 watts? I cannot read it for sure (out of focus) but 12 volts at 565 watts equates to 565/12=47.08 amps. So you might get 30 minutes of runtime out of a good battery. Of course if it is being charged all the time , your should be ok..Of course like you are intendending to use it (intermittantly) I think you would be OK in either case. I am betting it will have quite a bit of torque, as DC motors can be quite powerful in a small package.

I need to look for one for use around here on smaller stuff. Have fun and stay safe....

I have a battery powered (self contained lithium 18Volt) one and it is not bad for cutting small limbs off. Not even in the same league as that 47 amp rig artisan has though. It turns quite a bit slower than a gas powered saw does and if you lean on it too hard you can stop it's cutting action. but still faster and easier than a hand powered saw. The battery and the oil in the tank both run out at about the same time. About an hour of walking around and cutting limbs.

It is a 13HP, Honda knock-off motor, I hope it charges the battery. This is just going to be perfect for that ocassionaly need for a saw while splitting wood.No big time uses for long periods of time. I'll post up pics when I get it and give it a home. I will not have it for a few weeks I believe.

I have been quiet about this saw because;

I found it on Craigslist, the seller seemed kinda nefarious, no Paypal, no credit cards, not forthcoming with a lot of info, and I told him I was not going to send cash or a cashiers check nor a money order Willy Nilly to someone I didn't know and expect the saw to show up. It was 180 miles away so just running over there was out of the question.

He said he was coming to LA in the near future. I told him I really wanted the saw, he offered to hold the saw and bring it when he came to LA. I wasn't holding my breath. That was today, he wrote and I met him At a ParkNride and we did the deal. WooHOO!

What a beauty of a lil Saw! Man this is going to be perfect with my log splitter. My log splitter has Die Hard battery, I will make a scabbard or whatnot to hold the saw and fab up some nice cables etc and and and it is cool!

I was quiet because I didn't want you guys going and looking for it and "Making the seller and offer he couldn't refuse..." :D

Pictures coming when I get it hung and set up down the road a few...

I actually laughed out loud...

No, I do not know FS means anything other than maybe Fire Service, First time I have ever seen FS used meaning For Sale. I am not into old saws, I happened upon this jewel and penned about it.

I did get the first two letters right trying to decipher your cscf code though!

Thanx for the edumacation! :D

If you give me the link to that minibrute thread in the CSFS forum I can figure it our I thunk...

I just went there and I see no search feature.

I gave 100 bux for it, it is in lightly used shape. Really good condition.

I just took it apart and cleaned er' up, loaded some oil, found out the plastic oil plug needs replacement, put'er back together and gave it a whirl. It is exactly as I suspected performance wise and PERFECT for what I plan on doing with it.

I would guess it is a 1/2" thread on that oil cap, it has an O Ring, so I am shopping for a good cap if anyone has a suggestion....

Your not going to be dropping huge trees w/ this, but w a sharp chain small this and thats around the log splitter will be a breeze...

What's heavy?

It prob weighs 10# or so.

I wanted it for my log splitter for the ocassional trim here and there. My splitter has a 12V DieHard powering it, works for me...
