If you come to TEXAS, and get in the real wilderness, (by that I mean like 20 miles from no where civilzed) you'll see the larger than life specimens if you spend a fair amount of time outdoors.
This was real. According to the fellow who caught this one, In the wild, they are fairly common, the granddaddy rattlers. Sometimes they are in such a thicket, that you can't get to them.
The photo Bird has in the post above is very similar.

Every year when the rattler sheds it's skin, a new link of the rattle appears. So, the older the rattller the bigger the rattle. The rattle on this one doesn't look that big. Usually the big ones have big rattles.

Actually, I don't get down there very often. Remember when Pete first opened across the street from its present location. The stuffed bear on the sidewalk was definitely a conversation piece.
