Do you think that the roller loads the arms more than turning and operating with a full loader bucket of gravel?

Steve

I do.

Turning and operating puts side inertial loads on the arms. Turning with the roller puts side friction loads as well as side inertial loads on the arms.

BL6, BL7 snow/utility blade
RL66, RL84 roller levels, no hudraulics
VR66C, vibratory roller standard hydraulics

It would be nice to be able to pack down and roll a trench after backfilling it.

I've looked at the snow/utility blades, too. I don't see a problem... There's not alot of difference between the JD SS and the Frontier models for the 3000 tractors excepting weight, width and the attachment mount.

I've noted that several TBNer's have adapted truck snowplows for FEL use. I'd guess that the 8' truck snowplow might even be heavier. 'Course using the hydraulics would be a technical issue with the truck unit.

I believe that skidoo has one with his new 110. He might have an opinion regarding the pros and cons of the SS blade.

I agree with MarkV and Curly's view that the rollers and the vibratory packer would exert lateral forces on the loader arms. However, at the speeds that the unit would be used and the likely terrain, etc. - the stress might not be so great as to a real problem.

You'd be just inchin' along and any turns would be very gradual and wide. However, I don't know long the unit is or how wide, either. If it's a big battleship hangin' off the ends of the FEL arms - well, even slow and easy would be too much.

If I knew that I was the only person who was ever going to use the tractor, I would probably just buy the roller. I understand the side loading issue and would go very slow.

If was ever going to rent it, or lend it to anyone, I would keep the roller locked in a separate building and would never let anyone else use it.

Thanks for the replies, I never like a choice that may overstress my equipment. I will wait and buy a skidsteer.
