Since I purchased my 1100 this spring it has been blowing black smoke from the exhaust. It runs good and starts fine, even in the cold. Injectors, pump, or maybe something simple? It is obviously running rich. I don't use it much so I rarely check fuel comsumption. Any Help?

Thanks...Dan

Lets start with the really easy stuff.... how does the air filter look?

All new filters and fluids.

Check air and fuel filters first.

How much smoke? Some smoke may be normal for an engine that old. My 20 year old 2120 also blows some black smoke, particularly until it warms up.

Will it smoke with the air filter removed?

It smokes pretty much the same warm or cold. I have not run the tractor with out the air filter. It has a different smell than diesel and seems like it is loaded up. I put a straight pipe on it thinking the muffler was plugged. It ran a little better, but still smoked bad.

thanks...Dan

Might be time for injector work, and while they are out.. the dreaded compression test..
