10w-30w UTTO equivelants/swapping

Just out of curiousity what can you substitute for UTTO. I am just wondering if the UTTO is 10w-30w can you substitute it for some other 10w-30w type fluid. If you can't why not if the weight is the same. Was telling the wife I wanted to drain and switch out my Transmission/hydraulic fluids but needed to find some synthetic 10w-30w UTTO and she asked why couldn't you use something else in 10w-30w........said i don't know. My neighbor says he runs a mix of UTTO and 10w-30w Mobil 1.

Completly different additive packages. UTF's have a additive package that is suited for hydraulic systems, extreme preasure gear's, wet brake and clutch systems, etc. The additive package in engine oil does not have any EP additives and no additives for brake/clutch systems. Your friend that is mixing his UTF with engine oil shouldn't because he is thining out the additive package for extreme preasure gear applications and any wet brake/clutch system he might have. It's best to use the correct fluid for the correct application. Just because the weight of a lubricating oil may be the same does not mean it can be used for everything. Would you use a 80W gear oil in your engine, a engine oil in your automatic transmission in your car, automatic transmission fluid in your engine? No, probably because of the same reason why should stick with a UTF in sump of your tractor.
