1099 Independent Contractor

Roy,

Another aspect are travel expenses, assuming you will be driving to a site and likely staying in a hotel etc.

Is your driving time as part of your contracted working time or a portion?

Also will they do hotel/food on a per diem basis or are you expected to pay then submit an invoice for actual incurred?

Per deim can be nice, but different areas have different rates and can be a lot to manage. I dont think per diem payments are treated as income unless they exceed the federal standards, but to be safe I would keep a record of actual expenses in any event.

My driving time would be included working hours.
I'm waiting for the background check to be completed. Once that's done, the agency has a schedule of allowances for expenses (which, based upon what I've read here and other web searches, makes me wonder if the 1099 contractor really applies).

If you stay with the GSA published rates for each city it is considered actual re-imbursed expenses and no questions for audit. Some companys have a seperate schedule, if it is less then you have to include the difference on your personal Sched A as job related expense.
