I bought a 1990 1070 8 months ago for a cheap price to use for bush hogging only . It is pretty worn out , unknown hours but had a hard life . Great rubber, motor been replaced at some point , no smoke , starts right up . I have changed all filters , replaced oil pan , radiator fan , all fluids . Picked up 8 used front weights . Today I hooked up a 5 ft box blade and now have a oil leak , cant tell exactly where its coming from but pretty high up , no leaks back there at all until I raised the box. I aint no mechanic , cant fix myself and as right now I have 5500 bucks in it . Sell it at a big loss or throw more bucks at it , I'm ready for a new 5045

I'd figure out where it is leaking. Could be a $5 seal and you are back in business.

Sounds like a great excuse to go for the 5045. :)
Should be able to swing a deal with the dealer or sell yourself.

You say you are no mechanic, but sounds like you did a fair amount of mechanic work on the 1070. ;) Do you have the tech manual?

Could help if you can pin point the leak.

Hmmmm, fix a seal or start tractor payments? Somebody wants a new tractor pretty badly. Nothing wrong with that, but I would pinpoint the cause of the leak and it's repair cost so you will know if the dealer or buyer that is getting it is going to hose you for the $5 seal. I would probably consider fixing it even it I were going to sell it, to keep the price of the sale up.

Not overfilled was it? Coming out of a vent at the top of the rockshaft casing?

Keep posting as much information as you can and as many pictures as you can. Armchair quarterbacking is really fun, especially with your time and money:thumbsup:
Seriously, if the motor works, transmission and clutch works a few leaks ain't no sweat. I've been there and done that with a high houred tractor, but it beat no tractor and at the time payments or a big check for a new tractor. You say you aren't a mechanic, but that 1070 you've got there is one heck of a teacher if you're willing.

From jdparts, looks like the cover over the rear parts and maybe under the seat need to come off. Hopefully then you can isoltate the leak, and if it only occurs when the 3 ph is raised with a load.
Here is a shot from jdparts that might help.

The stick dosent read high but it may not be the correct stick , its broke off and only 4 inch long but the part with the markings is still there , tractor was part of a fleet used by a contractor in southern virginia. I'll have to check it again in the day light
