105* degree heat index today......

I have been up at 5:30 each morning getting a little yard work done. No mowers, just spraying, trimming, etc. Dawn is the best part of the day in my book! After 10 or so it's just too hot for me to be out. The good news is that my shop is really well organized.

It's been in the 90's with heat indexes in the 100+ most of the last three weeks or so here in the middle of Missery. It has rained enough to keep things growing, especially the weeds, but the tomatoes haven't set as much fruit as they would have if the temps were down. The squash just started to come on even though I've had little zukes on the plants for what seems like two weeks. A little cooling and some rain really made things take off.

I get out to the garden weekend mornings and just sit and weed most of the time. Not too bad if I take is slow and steady, but thinning and weeding two 60' rows of okra did get me to the "why is it getting so dark" stage. When it gets really hot I just do the mowing. Zipping along on the rider is fine even in the high 90's, especially when I'm already dripping wet from garden work.

On Saturday I tried to get up at 0500 but I was too tired from the day before so I was lazy and got up at 0600.

Spent 5 hours in the garden pulling weeds. Yes that many weeds.

Around 1000-1100 the sun was up enough to start getting things toasty and I was having to take breaks out of the sun to cool down. But it was a cool day. The temp only got up to mid/high 90s.

Sunday I went out for an hour at 0730 to replant some things and water the garden. By the time I was done it was already in the mid 80s and we topped out near 100.

By the middle of this week weather.com is saying we will have a high of 76! Woo Hoo!
