Waiting for the snow to melt, then I'll go and bring this piece of junk home and see if I got my money's worth. This loader will eventually find a home attached to my Satoh S650G.

The loader originally came off a Massey 35.

For $100.oo you can't go wrong.

Couple years ago I had purchased a Massey 35 from the same fellow for $500.00 not running and poor tires, I knew he had another 35 that he wouldn't sell at the time.

Now that a few years had gone by decided to go over to his other property to see if he had done anything with the tractor, there it sat with the two rear tires off leaning against a tree as they were the first time I had seen the tractor.

He lives in the city and rarely comes out this way so I called him only to find that he had sold the tractor and the new owner had yet to pick it up. The next time I was out near the old farm had a quick look and this time the tractor was gone but the front end loader was still laying in the brush.

Made another call and made my deal, it could just be expensive scrap or the deal of the year.

The original 35 after putting new tires all round, sandblasting then painting some guy drops in off the highway and makes me an offer I can not refuse, now that I'm older and wiser and have learned to curb my impulses I maybe able to keep this next tractor.

Actually I would probably have trouble finding a buyer for the Satoh it's not a known name and would be considered an orphan. So I finally done something right by buying it myself.

On a side not the Massey 36 had the Perkins diesel that uses the CAV injector pump it's a known problem that if they sit for any length of time the needle valve sticks and no fuel will enter the pump. A re-builder of injectors and pumps told me these CAV's after being rebuilt sitting on the shelf will do that as well.

It's am easy fix that may only require one gasket because you have to remove a cover to free the stuck needle.

I'm old school and the equipment I own is generally older than I am with their diesel engine being direct injected, what I've learned in the past two weeks of the newer indirect injected diesel engines is that I will say that I'm not in favor of the new technology.

When I was searching for the V2203 to install in the Satoh soon found out this engine has the same first number designation but come with indirect injection, fortunately I found the older version..

Yes I've been in touch with Bill from Valley Power and found him to very helpful.

In the early 90's as a sideline I used to buy non running portable welders, the Miller Big 40's and Lincoln SAE 200 were always a favorite and good sellers once repaired anyhow I got wind that the welding supply company nearby had a rental fleet of welders all with seized engines.

I bought a couple dozen of them and a buddy picked up the rest, we paid something like $50.00 each, they had the Mazda Industrial engine and even back then parts were impossible to find. The welders cluttered up my shop for a few months then one day a guy who had heard about the welders at West coast Supply who had been there looking to buy them was told that I had them.

Lucky for me the counter guy from West coast had given this new guy my address, he was aware of the Mazda power and had no concerns about it, I never asked him what his intentions were just anxious to clear my shop of them. They had found a new home.

If our Canadian dollar keeps going the way it has been it will soon be worth less than a Mexican peso, based on our dollar value and my previous experience with the Mazda Industrial engines have decided to replace the Mazda engine with a Kubota V2203 DI which I have found at a scrap yard in a damaged trailer with a Carrrier reefer on it.

The Kubota engine set me back a whopping $600.00 plus my time to remove the engine, all I have to do is disconnect everything then the yard will yank it out with their loader.

The Satoh S650G cost me $500.00.

That's a good score! Looks to be a Massey/Davis 99,101, or 102 loader. You can find all the specs for them here:

General rule:
99- single acting lift cylinders with a one double acting dump cylinder
101- double acting lift cylinders with a one double acting dump cylinder
102- double acting lift cylinders with two double acting dump cylinders

That is not a steadfast rule, as I've seen (and have) a 99 with double acting lift cylinders.

Lots of details about them here:

Thanks for the information on the loader, I didn't have a clue what brand or model it was. Looks like it's a 102 with a pair of dump cylinders, from the spec sheet I see the spool valve does not support float.

Yep, looks like a 102 to me. No float position as far as I know.

If the hydraulic pump is missing (supposed to be front mount off the crank pulley), you can find one at Surplus Center, the GPM is listed in the specs I linked to.

If you're mounting it to a newer machine you may be able to use the internal hydraulics. These loaders have the reservoir built into the loader frame. It would take a little custom work to get it going.
