This is a replica of a 1923 case haypress that I built from blueprints. The main gears came from an old windmill pumpjack. It produces a 5x7x13 inch bale. I fabricated all the parts except for the gears. It is fun to watch it work.

How does it work? Do you need to "recut" the length of the grass going into it to form the bale? Do you use sisal twine? Looks like a cool hobby.

There is a hopper above the baling chamber where handfuls of hay are packed into the chamber by the packing board. When the packing board lifts out a rectangular steel "packer",(attached to a connecting rod, connected to a rod journel on the bull gears forces the hay into the chamber. The bales are tied with 17 gauge wire. I can get about 14 bales out of a regular size bale.

I bought my plans from The Original Mini Hay Press
