\'00 GT235 or \'01 LX279?

Seeking advice: Need a mowing tractor for less than one acre of lawn, mostly flat, some uneven ground and small hills. Local JD dealer has a '00 GT235, 48"C deck with about 100 hours; and a '01 LX279, 42" deck w/7 bushel bagger, with about 200 hours. Both machines appear to have been stored inside. Either machine (w/54C deck as trade-in) priced at 2k out the door. I'm leaning toward the LX (water cooled/bagger), but would like to hear from fellow TBN'ers.

I don 't remember what motor is in the GT235. I like the water cooled set up and bagger on the LX279 so this is what I would go for. Either one would do the trick, currently I am mowing about the same with a LT150. Good luck. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a 2003 GT235 and I'm very happy with it. It sees rough use and it's held up well. We mow 2 acres with it in summer and then in winter I move it to my office where we fit a show blower and clear the parking lot and walkways.

When I bought mine the dealer said the design life of the GT was about double that of the LX. I think I would go with the GT if it were me.

The GT has an air cooled v-twin, I belive the dealer said Kohler brand.

I have an '03 GT 225 and really like it. The LX series, however is John Deere's premium line of lawn tractors. They have all the bells and whistles. Unless you plan on using ground-engaging implements or towing modest loads, I think the LX would be the better choice.
