    Shop Improvements

I'm surprized that there isn't an existing thread talking about nothing but shop improvements, but seemingly there isn't and so I'm starting a shop improvement thread! Keeping in mind that there is a plesiosaur sculpture in my swamp that people in my area talk about, I installed a new gag for...

Winch mod for my shop press

Ever since I bought my20 ton shop press back in the 80s, I wished it had a winch to raise and lower the bed, but never got around to doing it. So a month or so ago I was at the local Runnings store (Think Tractor Supply, only bigger) and saw a boat winch that I thought would do the job. I also...

    Shop heating advice?

Does anyone have experience heating a woodworking shop with a Rinnai type direct vent propane heater? I'm a bit concerned with how well it would tolerate all of the saw dust in the shop. Seems as though the filter would clog up quickly. I suppose if we mounted it in an easy to access location...

    Shop HVAC Ductwork Questions

Folks, I don't know who else to ask! 40X40X12H shop, 2x8 walls, 6/12 pitch, flat ceiling. All metal interior and exterior. Propane 70K BTU furnace with hopes of future AC. I would like the propane furnace close to the ceiling in the corner furthest from doors, but am clueless to the duct work. I...

    Propane direct vent shop heater

I have a small wall mounted direct vent propane heater, about 5-6 years old, that was working fine every winter until now. I usually have to clean the pilot thermocouple tip, but that's it. But now, the main burner flame is nice and blue close to the entry end, but mostly yellow at the far...

New Shop build Plywood wall finishing ideas needed.

Planning on using sanded 3/4" plywood for the first 8 feet of the interior walls of my new barn build. I am uncertain as to how to finish the walls, I plan on painting them white but not sure whether I should try to caulk the seams and nail holes or just live with them?

Shop lift, but not for vehicles.

Hi everyone, I'm thinking I need something to lift heavy things up to my 4'x4' work bench. I really would have loved to get my generator up there to service it, but I just can't lift what I used to. I'm thinking of something like a lift table. It needs to be low and able to lift a few hundred...

    New shop build vent question?

I am in the process of ordering my shop 28x40 and i am torn between getting 12”x12” frame out put in for fans. The intent of the fans is to pull the heat (and fumes) out of the shop during summer. However i do intend to heat the shop during winter. So then i would have to deal with the holes. I...

    Shop AC Sizing

I have a garage/shop that’s 20’x30 with 10’ walls, kinda like vaulted ceilings with one layer of bubble insulation (sides & walls) it’s in SC therefore it’s hot and humid which makes it uncomfortable inside the building. I may add a second layer of the bubble insulation to the ceiling as I have...

I have posted a few pics of various stages of my shop project but I thought I would post a pic of the final project. I have been wanting a workshop for quite a while and I finally started a little over a year ago. The only thing left to do is the concrete pad in front of the doors. Size is 40...

    Intercom to shop

Anybody have suggestions for a kitchen to shop intercom. Distance as wire would run would be close to 200 feet. Wireless won't work because shop is metal building. 120 volt receptacle plug in units won't work because shop has its own electric meter and ground system.

    Shop ideas to consider

I will start off this "idea" thread with this shop addition: I put a solenoid valve at the outlet of my air compressor that is "opened" by turning on my shop lights. No broken hoses at night running my compressor when no one is around. I can also find out that I have an air leak if my piping...

    Shop/Carport

We replaced our old carport and garage that set on the slab above 20” from the retaining wall and so water pooled and ran underneath it and soaked the floor. With the new one the garage sets on the retaining wall and the garage is 30’ deep and 20’ wide measuring to the outside edges. The...

    Shop circulation

Hi everybody, We built a new -heated- workshop, nice! But it is much warmer at the ceiling and mezzanine than on the floor. I guess it needs some kind of fan Trying to find out a way to turn it on as needed. It seems a bit much to let it run all the time. Compare top and bottom temperatures...
