My son n law inherited this jd50 and I have several questions about it. 1) How do we check the engine oil level,,, we can not find a dip stick. 2) We want to rebuild the carb,, is there a fuel shut off from the tank....we do not see one . 3) Where if any is a number located for the carb...

I have a John Deere 50 and anytime I put an attachment on the back I can raise it up fine but as soon as I let go of the lever it goes right back down. What do I need to do to fix this

I have a 1956 John Deere Model 50 that was manufactured in February 1956 - just prior to the changeover to the Model 520. It was the last of the 300 "50's" built. I restored it completely and it actually runs better than when it was new. Not sure why it runs better, perhaps the timing was off...
