    JD 4400 Tractor won't start

Hey all, Just an update. JD was able to get to my tractor sooner than thought. Turned out to be the rear PTO switch. Mechanic said it was a bear to get to...had to pull one of the rear tires and the fender to get to it. Anyway, it's up and running now. I appreciate everyone's help.

Ravensroost, I have a PTO lever on the right side of the seat. I've pulled, pushed, jiggled, cussed and it still won't start.

    JD 4400 Tractor won't start

Arrgh...JD can't get to it for two weeks and I've already lost the 5yr old boy in the tall grass. Anyone have any information on where to physically locate the F5 fuse, the rear PTO switch, and the neutral transmission switch? Thanks again everyone.

    JD 4400 Tractor won't start

Hey guys, Thanks again for the input. Not having a lot of luck due to inability to find the physical location of the F5 fuse and the PTO and transmission neutral switches on the wiring schematics. Tested the K2 relay which tested fine. Probably have to get it trailered in to the local JD shop.

    JD 4400 Tractor won't start

Beenthere and K7LN, Does the tech manual have physical descriptions of the various relay and switches? And does it describe how to pull the instrument panel to get at them? At this point, I'm limited to physically tracing the wiring to find and test the various relay and switches. Also, the...

    JD 4400 Tractor won't start

OK...check the voltage of the 309 Wht wire to the starter motor solenoid and it has no voltage with the ignition switch turned to start or run. Checked the white wire at the back of the ignition switch (same wire?) and got 12V with the key at the run position and 0V when turned to the crank...

    JD 4400 Tractor won't start

OK...tried the test Beenthere suggested. Without disconnect the fuel shutoff solenoid wire connector, I disconnected the 309 Wht wire from the starting motor selenoid terminal and jumped from the positive battery terminal to the starter solenoid terminal. Got the starter motor to crank over...

    JD 4400 Tractor won't start

I appreciate the replies. I really don't think it is the battery. It's new and I've was able to start the tractor several days ago. I don't get anything when I try to jump it from the truck which worked when the old battery was dying. I don't leave the key in and it hasn't sat for an...

    JD 4400 Tractor won't start

Thanks for the reply. Battery is good and terminals are clean and tight. I had already worked through that point. Connection at starter is clean and tight as well.

    JD 4400 Tractor won't start

Hi, I have a 2002 JD 4400 compact tractor (40hp) that won't start. Initially, I had to jump it to start but then replaced the battery. Seemed to work fine after that for a couple of weeks. Now won't start again even with a jump. When I turn the key, I get panel lights but no click or turn...
