    power tool recommendation

I have an earlier version of this one from Northern Tool: https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200788686_200788686. I've had it for over 12 years with zero problems. Whatever you choose, I'd recommend you look for one with a Honda motor and CAT pump. Change out any zinc-coated hose...

Asking for advice on using a rental 3ph tiller for a first-time user

Thank you everyone for your advice. My plan at this point is to possibly use the subsoiler to break up the ground so I have better water penetration and then contract out the rest of the work. I appreciate everyone's help.

Asking for advice on using a rental 3ph tiller for a first-time user

Sorry, I just saw your generous offer, thanks so much! Let me look at some videos of using a subsoiler and I will get back to you. Plus, my pickup truck is in the transmission shop, so I couldn't pick it up yet. I will get back to you. I greatly appreciate your offer. Would it make sense to...

Asking for advice on using a rental 3ph tiller for a first-time user

Thanks for the info and advice and yup, you're right. I have no compelling desire to do the tilling with my tractor, and since this is a one-time project, I think paying someone to do it is indeed the right choice for me. Glad I posted and got that feedback from you and others.

Asking for advice on using a rental 3ph tiller for a first-time user

My thinking on this is that I will have a lot of planting beds where I'll be planting shrubs with deeper root systems and I'm trying to get the soil in better shape deeper down, so I'm going to till organic compost into the clay to improve the soil.

Asking for advice on using a rental 3ph tiller for a first-time user

THANK YOU! You know, you are absolutely right! That's exactly what I should do. The only PTO implement I might ever have a regular need for in the future is a chipper. I'll never use a tiller again. Thanks for knocking some sense into my head.

Asking for advice on using a rental 3ph tiller for a first-time user

Thanks very much. I looked up PTO shaft sizing on YouTube and also the slip clutch and I understand now what you're talking about. It really sounds like I should buy my own PTO shaft and put a slip clutch on it and size it to the tiller once I've rented it to be on the safe side, and then I'll...

Asking for advice on using a rental 3ph tiller for a first-time user

Thank you for this info. I found a couple of videos on YouTube that illustrate what you're talking about. Earlier in this thread, it was recommended that I use a slip clutch. Looked that up on YouTube too and that seems like a very smart move for a rookie like me too.

Asking for advice on using a rental 3ph tiller for a first-time user

No, it's just dirt now. I only have 3 teeth left on the roll over and there are no tips on the teeth (they are like the photos I posted) and the ground is hard enough that despite the weight of the roll over, they don't really dig in.

Asking for advice on using a rental 3ph tiller for a first-time user

Thank you, I was wondering about that. I have an old, beat-up Gannon roll-over box blade that I use on my driveway, but with only 3 remaining scarifiers with no tips and I have not been able to find replacements. The scarifiers are also 3/4" thick. (see attached photos - the photo of the box...

Asking for advice on using a rental 3ph tiller for a first-time user

Looking for some advice here, so I don't do anything boneheaded. I want to prepare my yard for planting decorative plants and turf. I have a Kubota L4060 tractor with HST. Last summer, a friend lent me a BCS walk-behind "tractor" with a tiller that is sort of a rototiller on steroids. I'm in...

    Paint or Stain on Shed

Does a 3ph land plane need to have adjustable blades?

Well, it should, but it's so beat up that it only has 3 of them and the tips on those 3 are completely gone. I only paid a few hundred bucks for it and I use it more for its counterweight properties than its grading capabilities.

Does a 3ph land plane need to have adjustable blades?

Thanks. One thing I've wondered.....and this is another reason why I was thinking that I'd want the adjustable (and therefore, removable and replaceable) blade supports, is do you need to worry about possibly churning up a big rock with scarifiers and then possibly bend one of the blade...

Does a 3ph land plane need to have adjustable blades?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I was thinking in terms of needing to set the blades deeper, but if that's never needed, then what you're suggesting would certainly work for me. Thanks.

Thanks, no, what others are showing in photos is what I'm talking about....land plane, land leveler, road grader.

Does a 3ph land plane need to have adjustable blades?

I'm eventually going to get a land plane for my Kubota L4060, but I'm not ready to part with the green yet. Nonetheless, I'm always looking for a used one on Facebook Marketplace, and today, for the first time, I came across a used Everything Attachments 6' land plane for sale (albeit, still...

    I don't understand something.

I typically put 30-40 hours per year on my Kubota L4060. I bought it with 170 hours on it and got a very good deal. I have an 800' long driveway that I maintain with it. Also, we have 11 heavily wooded acres and regularly have downfallen trees.....sometimes pretty big ones, and sometimes...

New Southern land leveler - who makes them and where are they made? - Opinions please. Same for Catawba Attachments

Thanks for the tip on Dirt Dog. I just went to their website and downloaded the brochures, and their stuff looks like exactly the type of equipment I'm looking for.....a bit heavier duty than the typical stuff but not over-the-top heavy duty that a homeowner wouldn't need

New Southern land leveler - who makes them and where are they made? - Opinions please. Same for Catawba Attachments

I need to buy a 6' land leveler to maintain my 800' driveway. I'm currently using an old, partially functioning, pretty beat-up Gannon rollover box blade. I can't spend what it costs or wait out the lead time for an EA land plane, and I want something heavier duty than a J-Bar-type land...

    Saved by a steering wheel

Glad you are OK. Could you please explain in a little more detail how this happened? The way I woiuld interpret your photos is that the tree had fallen. The trunk seems higher on the left side, where I presume the root ball is located. I'm thinking that you moved in to grab the trunk with...

Homemade Chainsaw Carrier - Yet another idea

Homemade Chainsaw Carrier - Yet another idea

Thanks for that input. I guess I need to revert back to the head resting on the top rim of the scabbard. Right now, it's intentionally not because I was afraid of bending the spikes.

Homemade Chainsaw Carrier - Yet another idea

No, that's a good question. Originally, I had the bar slot completely open at the bottom and the weight was resting on the top and bottom spikes, which are longer than the two middle spikes. I did not like all the weight of the power head on those 2 spikes, so I screwed a block in place at the...

Homemade Chainsaw Carrier - Yet another idea

Now, you're up yonder in the great, white North, so I'll bet you can just throw a shovel or two of that cold smoke you've got up there into a heap and pack it into a platform next to your Kioti and gain an inch or six in height and you'll be able to lift that MS 362 up high enough just fine!

Homemade Chainsaw Carrier - Yet another idea

Well, I've been wanting to rig up a contraption for carrying my chainsaw on my Kubota L4060 so I wouldn't have to put it in the bucket when I'm in the woods cutting up downfallen trees. I know there are kits on the market like SawHaul, but I didn't want to spend $180 on the thing and I'm not...

    Bad news big repair

I'm no mechanic, but FYI, I had a little John Deere 670 and the ignition switch rotated both directions. I'd rotate the key to the left for 10 seconds or so to warm the glow plugs then rotate to the right to activate the starter motor. That system worked great. Seems that the suggestions...

Surprised by need for rear ballast with L 4060 in this situation

Thank you. I wish Kubota would get into some detail. That statement is boilerplate to cover their asses from being sued and is pretty much as worthless as **** on a bull. How much ballast? My 3PH has a capacity of over 2000 lbs. Would 2000 lbs. maximize my safety? Would it put too much stress on...

When I started this thread, I had no idea it would get such a great response. I'm learning a lot by reading the posts. I do have a number of points I want to make. Some of those responding seem to be pretty disdainful of us new tractor owners and the fact that we do not magically know...

Surprised by need for rear ballast with L 4060 in this situation

I recently bought an L4060. I have a 4000 lbs SS QA fork attachment that I used with the L48 TLB that I sold before buying the L4060. I know it’s heavier than what one might normally buy for that size tractor, but I had it already. I have some units of hardwood lumber that I have moved around...

L 4060 slow FEL when box blade is on the 3PH

Thank you, everyone. It is in indeed the relief valve setting on the 3PH, and think even I can adjust that and not screw anything up! I raised the lift arms to ever-higher positions and the FEL worked fine all the way to almost-the-top. And then, when I reached the top, the slow-loader...

L 4060 slow FEL when box blade is on the 3PH

Thank you. A couple of people have said it’s an adjustment on the 3PH (see one other person’s reply in this thread to my questions ) and I found the page in the WSM that addresses those adjustments. I’m going to give it a shot tomorrow. With regard to some of your questions, all fluids and all...

L 4060 slow FEL when box blade is on the 3PH

I also posted this on OTT.........I bought a used L4060 with 170 hours on it a few weeks ago. I have used it for a few hours, only using the FEL. The tires are loaded with beet juice and I have not needed any ballast hanging on the 3PH yet. I bought an old 6' Gannon rollover box blade for my...

Well, I want to thank everyone for all the comments. I'm learning a lot reading them. In the last week, I've been searching for a box blade, because I do have other needs for it besides the potential use on the driveway. So, today I've had a very good (I think) development; I found a 72"...

TerryR, you actually have described exactly what my driveway is like. It is indeed sloped where I'm dealing with the bank, but it is not as steep as yours. 7' Gannon roll over box blade & Kubota L4060

7' Gannon roll over box blade & Kubota L4060

Thank you, everyone. After reading your comments, I did some other research and it sounds like this 7' ROBB is just too large for my tractor, so I'll abandon that idea and go back to the idea of a 6' regular box blade with a hydraulic top link.

7' Gannon roll over box blade & Kubota L4060

Fluid in hydraulic cylinder is milky but in rest of tractor, fluid is clear.

The black bucket has the fluid that drained out of the cylinder 2 days ago. I tried not to stir it up when I rotated the bucket to show the white residue on the bottom of the bucket. The second photo is fluid I just now drained out of the drain plug, and it's cloudy too. I'm going to change...

Kubota L48 hydraulic quick connects for backhoe - can they be used to power 3PH hydra
