The PDF you sent looks very much like my model. I don't see the limit switch and still am unsure what it does and, therefore, whether it could have anything to do with my problem.

You were right about it having feedback linkage on the left side of the tractor, looking from the rear. However, there is no missing or loose linkage there. However, there is a limit switch that makes contact as full lift is approached and it looks as if the wire may be broken. I don't know...

It doesn't drop when the engine is turned off. It very gradually goes down over a period of 15 to 20 minutes, like it's leaking down.

Some responders have said that the speed control valve, if fully closed, would cause the hitch to stay in the up position. Is that incorrect?

There is no draft control. Is it possible that the speed control has failed in such a way that it remains fully closed regardless of how I turn the knob? I notice that the knob is very difficult to turn when the engine is running.
