    Boomer 46B?

I currently have a TC29D with 1700 hours; it’s my 1st 4-wheel tractor and it had been great for moving material and mowing my small (1 acre) home property which is heavily planted (annual garden + permaculture) however I am thinking of upgrading in terms of weight and power in order to be able...

    Bcs 735 or 737

Perhaps this post can be moved to the 2 Wheel Tractor subforum? There are some folks who really know a lot about BCS. Another resource is Use, Repair, and Maintenance - Earth Tools I can’t access it right now but there is a list of models to be found under the parts tab.

Low hour LX4500: A bad idea?

Thank you both for the replies! I was hoping there’d be a little more presence here for this series of tractors. I found a 2nd ad that describes it as a demo unit for a local water utility, which I suppose would explain things in part.

Low hour LX4500: A bad idea?

I have an older “starter” tractor (NH tc29d) for landscaping and general gardening chores and have a plan, after I finish some projects at home, to use it to repair and build roads in the woodlot (100 acre hardwood) as well as bring out wood. I can’t complain about it so far but I’ve been...

Anybody use their BCS PTO to power other hydraulics?

Thanks for the above. I see Earthtools has an adapter to convert from the 3 flange BCS to 1 & 3/8” PTO. I know there are PTO driven 3-point hitch wood splitters -American CLS sells one for example- but it’s rated for 30+ hp at the PTO. So I’m guessing that my 749 wouldn’t spin the pump on...

    BCS with Yanmar Diesel?

Thank you for posting this link. It doesn’t particularly make me want to pursue the Yanmar engine.

Anybody use their BCS PTO to power other hydraulics?

Hi folks, after looking at wood splitters as per this thread: BCS branded wood splitter? I have been wondering if anyone has set up their tractor to run a splitter or other implement that would be freestanding but utilize the PTO via an adaptation to link to the hydraulic pump. Since the pump...

    BCS with Yanmar Diesel?

thanks for the replies, the unit I’m looking at is very lightly used and the price is really excellent I’m a pretty limited mechanic for things beyond general maintenance and adjustments but my nephew is a diesel mechanic and was encouraging when I asked him about trying one I’m mostly...

    BCS with Yanmar Diesel?

Anyone have a BCS 853 with a Yanmar Diesel? I have a gas 749 that it great but I wonder about the diesel, especially since I got a diesel compact utility tractor for some heavy landscaping -it’s been great. I have read numerous threads re the difference between the engine types -including...

    BCS branded wood splitter?

Thank you, I glanced over the website and will go back to look further. They look to be reasonably priced and I’d be pleased to be supporting our northern neighbors.

    BCS branded wood splitter?

Oh, I try to stay inside December through February! I would usually be swapping out the mower deck for the splitter. It might not be much to swap implements compared to a 3 point hitch but it’s still a pain and adds enough time to the job to be a consideration.

    BCS branded wood splitter?

That’s my feeling as well, except most new stand alone units with the exception of made in USA brands like Timberwolf appear low quality (and I recall much frustration with non functional wood splitters in the past). Wallenstein makes high quality equipment and I would expect the best. But I can...

    BCS branded wood splitter?

I need a wood splitter and am trying to choose between ponying up $$$$ for the Wallenstein manufactured unit or looking for a good used splitter that will have a dedicated engine (preferably Timberwolf as they are local). The Bell unit offered by Earthtools is not very appealing- very low...

Asking for advice on machine to landscape my yard

That sort of project is the reason I would like the excavator for the tc29. We’ll see where this goes.

Asking for advice on machine to landscape my yard

Thank you all for the advice! I did arrange to buy the TC29 though won’t take delivery for a while. I have to admit that in spite of some obviously good advice from you guys I’ll be looking for the backhoe to fit. I can’t resist making work for myself.

Asking for advice on machine to landscape my yard

Thank you for your replies. It looks to me like a skid steer, such as a 20 hp bobcat, would be a great, focused piece of equipment, but more expensive and harder to justify. I have to admit that I want a backhoe about 10 times as much as I need one. I see using for 1-2 years as I improve the...

Asking for advice on machine to landscape my yard

I’ve found a local 2006 New Holland TC29 that has a heavy duty bucket with cutting teeth & a lift hook and also comes with a 3pt finish mower for $8500. Hydrostatic, 4wd, 1600 hours and appears well cared for and was recently serviced and has no issues. Looks like I could find a backhoe for...

Berta Two Stage Snow Blower Auger gear box oil change

Joel at Earthtools seems to recommend simply keeping implement gearboxes topped up, and that’s what I do whether my equipment is new or well used. Unless the gears are already mangled or somebody intentionally contaminated the gearbox I doubt draining it is going to make much of a difference.

Asking for advice on machine to landscape my yard

I had not considered how a load in the bucket would affect traction for a small tractor, thank you. I wasn’t aware of a boom pole for a 3 pt hitch so will look this up.

Asking for advice on machine to landscape my yard

Thank you Milo. I will look more at the loader capacity going forward. Too many rocks, I have considered a mini excavator -I think it would be extremely well suited (and super fun) -but I wouldn’t buy a new Chinese machine, based on principle, and am not seeing them for sale used in my area...

Asking for advice on machine to landscape my yard

I usually use the 2-wheel tractor sub forum as I garden and do my property maintenance with a BCS -I live on an acre of property and have about 2000 sq feet of garden- but I want to build retaining walls, a patio, and freestanding walls out of stone, and am interested in a tractor that can help...

BCS 749 steering brakes barely do anything?

Is it in part the position of the levers? I don’t use my brakes to steer much because it’s hard to get a good pull on them, especially when I’m already fighting with the tractor. This is especially true on the left because of the need to stay on the red lever. It’s just not an ergonomic design...

    Shredder/Chipper for BCS

Should have added: it is also dependent on the material being processed It will go thru soft woods like cedar with little resistance but I ran a butternut thru yesterday and had to slow down to avoid bogging or jamming -stuff was like steel cable

    Shredder/Chipper for BCS

I agree with NibbanaFarm in that the hp is the key. I have the Caravaggi bio 150 run it with my 12.9 hp 149 and find that the limiting factor IS indeed the hp. It is a great tool and will chip up to about 7.5 cm but I can bog the engine easily with bigger limbs if I’m not careful. I would...

    Support-stand for two wheel -tractors: Available ? ? ?

Don Newton, of Newton’s BCS in Fairlee VT, makes a simple stand that bolts onto the engine side of the tractor. It seems to fit better on the 853 than my 749 but still works well enough. It is very basic but serviceable, with a rod that slides up and down and secures at the desired height. I...
