    MT240HE differential oil level

I used a disposable, one-use syringe with a rubber hose attached to lower the oil level, about 20cc at a time. Took the LS out this morning and worked some of my hilly property, widening one trail and created the graded foundation of another. Not a drop leaked! Because of my lack of...

    MT240HE differential oil level

Not wanting to leave anyone hanging.. I took the advice of: 1 - Check only the left side 2 - Check with the dipstick screwed in Based on that, the level was high. I removed enough oil to get the level to show about 3/4 full when the dipstick was screwed fully in. Additionally, I checked with...

    MT240HE differential oil level

Have had a problem with the front differential of my MT240HE spewing oil out of the vent cap on the right side. The manual says to check the oil level so that it is between the min and max markings on the dipstick.. Well, sure- I might be ugly, but I'm not stupid.. But is that checked with the...

Please critique the weld quality (photos enclosed)

I have never welded but have done silver soldering, lead/tin soldering, and brass brazing. I agree with all the comments concerning the poor job done. The welds look exactly like solder does when a small iron is used on a big, cold piece of metal. The gaps and holes in the welds are going to...

    Another chipper accident

I have a 9" PTO flywheel type chipper (WoodMaxx MX9900). It has a hydraulic motor that runs feed rollers as well as a wrap-around safety bar. My PTO is around 36HP as I remember and this chipper is a scary machine. If something that can kill you doesn't scare you you shouldn't use it. Things...

    New to quick hitches

I bought the Quick Hitch from "Harbor Fright" and it only worked on one of two of my implements. The fixed top hook would not allow one implement to fit. It sits rusting in my yard. I ended up getting Pat's QuickHitch and it is fantastic. Once you have it installed and tightered it works just as...

    Best Chainsaw Sharpener under $300

I have been using the Grandberg hand sharpener (on the bar type) for years. They also sell a 12 volt model that uses stone burrs. I learned long ago from a pro-saw competitor that if you cut all the teeth to the same length it makes them the same height. When they are the same height and the...

Yellow Jacket Nests While Bush hogging, whats your plan?

About a month ago I saw a couple of small mounds of fine soil (like tiny pebbles) that resembled an ant hill about 1½" tall, but with a opening hole the size of the body of a Sharpie marker. I curiously put a pine needle down the hole and it stopped a good 5 or 6" deep. 'Huh?' I thought to...

Yellow Jacket Nests While Bush hogging, whats your plan?

I was using my Husqvarna 545FR forestry clearing saw with a string head clearing light brush and weeds along some trails on my property and hit a nest. Group wasps, meat bees, whatever they are.. little bastards nonetheless. At first there was one or two I saw through the metal screen face...

Tractor worked on by dealer today & won't turn off!!!

Agreed! I was a classroom teacher for two decades and still work in an educational capacity. I have always said that I thrive on ignorance as that is how I make my living. Stupid people really tick me off. So long as you have the capacity to seek knowledge and the desire to learn you will...

face mask for mowing tired of the dust?

A lot of ignorance in some of these replies as well as medical advice that is unsound as well as politically motivated comments concerning the wearing of masks. All together here, about the only negative I have not seen is "It doesn't look cool." The fine particles that are in the sort of dust...

face mask for mowing tired of the dust?

I wrote the following for our local community's FaceBook page a couple of years ago. It covers my use of the mask I wear when needed: If you have to work outside in this foul air, I recommend getting a silicone half mask with replaceable filters. Whatever you get, make sure that N95...

HST hydraulic filter and fluid change owner's manual inaccuracy

I read some of the earlier posts talking about losing only a small amount of fluid. It could be that the layout of their hydraulic system is different from the one on the MT240HE, but it could be that they are talking about the smaller HST filter if they have the hydrostatic transmission and not...

HST hydraulic filter and fluid change owner's manual inaccuracy

Take a look at this attached spreadsheet which graphically shows the problem with the owner's manual's recommendations and reinforces my opinion that the service schedule in the manual is wrong. You will see that at each 1500 hour interval the fluid and the filter are changed together (indicated...

HST hydraulic filter and fluid change owner's manual inaccuracy

My point was that it cannot be done unless you put the used fluid that POURS out back into the transmission. It would be a challenge to change the filter before five gallons pours out! Doofy's tip about using a vacuum at the fill opening is intriguing to say the least! Combine that with...

HST hydraulic filter and fluid change owner's manual inaccuracy

Maybe this will help someone (or maybe someone will let me know if I missed something). Among other tasks, the 50 hour service calls for the replacement of the hydraulic oil filter, the HST filter, and the engine oil filter as well as the engine and transmission (hydraulic) oil. Maybe you did...

"New" Tiller Draw Pins Too Close Together

I had a similar problem. Bought a Quick Hitch from Harbor Freight. Worked fine with my Titan field mower but there was no way to get it to work with my Gearmore rear blade. The top hook would not fit properly. I finally gave up on it. With three rear impelments I wanted something to make it...

    DIY Tire Repair

A final followup: The Boot I used was the Bestpatch Bias Tractor Tire Repair Patch CTP4 (9-1/2"x9-1/2 6 Ply). I did some research on urethane products mentioned earlier in the thread. I realized that about ten years ago I had actually used a 'caulking' tube of the 3M product to seal a leaking RV...

    DIY Tire Repair

The patch they applied was so thin that it inflated a bit through the hole in the tire. I did not trust it, and the boot was very thick and I wanted it to help stick down and stabilize the torn area which the patch was not doing. And correct- the internal ribs stuck up enough that my thought was...

That looks somewhat like the patch the tire shop applied inside the tire. It would have worked if it was a nail hole or or other such small puncture. This was a teat that damage some of the tires ply fibers and so needed some serious reinforcing.

If you are cutting mostly all softwoods those sorts of file-holder hand guides are good enough. If you have much hardwood like I have cut for the last thee decades, you need an accurate system. I was never much good with the hand guide like that. I use one just for touchup in the field, but...

2019 LS MT240HE 3pt. Down speed control valve stuck closed

FIXED! As with so many such problems it takes longer to reveal the problem than it takes to fix it. I first thought about using my floor jack to lift the load on the lift arms to relieve pressure, but my theory was that there was not enough pressure to unseat the ball in the valve, assuming...

2019 LS MT240HE 3pt. Down speed control valve stuck closed

THANK YOU! I do know about the valve and it is completely 'loosened' I actually removed the control 'knob' by unscrewing it all the way out (I did replace it though, but not tight). The 3pt is well up with an 1100 pound PTO chipper off the ground!

2019 LS MT240HE 3pt. Down speed control valve stuck closed

Title says it all. Stuck closed and cannot currently attached implement. So.. - How to bleed pressure to lower implement? - How to repair/replace control valve? - How to disable valve? - Specific location, how to access, and a parts breakdown of valve itself would be most helpful. THANK YOU!
