Has anyone have experience with these small bushog type cutters? They are powered by small gas engines and towed behind small tractors, lawn mowers or wheelers.

    Rpm's and long downhill runs

I understand running my tractor mx5100 at higher revs is best for the health of the Diesel engine and the hst tranny. However my woodlot is a three quarter mile climb up hill from the river to the hardwood forest. When I come down that hill I am usually towing a one cord plus of hardwood which...

    High fuel cost and wood

Everyone is seeing rocketing fuel costs I guess. Here diesel has gone to $ 2.10 per litre Canadian. That translates to $6.72 per US gallon if I am right on my calculation. Highest ever seen. My necessary work I will just have to absorb the cost. But I also produce a modest amount of firewood I...

    Winches  logging winch issue

I have a Wallenstein FX 85 logging winch and have been very happy with it. Yesterday I had an issue. I destroyed the anti tangle brake mechanism. The cable feeds over a white plastic pulley down through a brake arm frame and onto the cable spool. When pulling the cable out the brake unlocks...

    logging winch danger

I know the topic of logging winch danger and safety has been extensively discussed in former threads. But this may be a new one. I am 70 and have worked around tractors and the woodlot since I was about 10. I know things can happen fast and to always be thinking safety. I use a 52 hp Kubota with...

    Logging self release snatch block

I just bought an Igland self release snatch block for winching logs. I have been using a block for years but it is not self release. This will save running back every time. At 69 every step counts! Can anyone tell me what the pointy end opposite the pulley is there for?

    Lifespan of kubota tractor

I have a Kubota mx5100 which is close to four years old now. I bought it new and have followed the maintenance schedule faithfully. It has 650 hours on it. I use it for plowing snow, winching and hauling firewood, bushoging and assorted light work.Wondering what the ballpark lifespan in hours is...

Oil & Fuel  Fuel filter change

Changed the fuel filter on my kubota Mx5100 today. It has 600 hours. When I shut the fuel valve off at the top of the sediment bowl it would not shut completely off. Slowed down the flow greatly but not completely. Got it changed though. Anybody else see this?

    Three point hookup

To attach the top link arm on my 3 point hitch there are 3 sets of holes on the back of the tractor to choose from. So there are 3 settings I can use. What is the difference in these settings? What difference does it make?

    Logging winch hookup issue

Bought a new Wallenstein logging winch for my Kubota MX5100 2014 model. Installed today. When I raised it all the way I didn't realize the top link arm hit the ROP cross arm and bent the link arm. Lucky I had another. I adjusted all the link positions but no good. I could always operate it and...

Hi. I am 68, retired and live on the old farm where I grew up. Although I don't farm, I bushog the old fields to keep them from growing bushes. I also garden and work on my 200 acre woodlot. I have a 1959 Ford Workmaster tractor and a Kubota MX 5100 diesel. I live in eastern Canada and do...
