    Found a coyote, I think

We visited Sandy again yesterday. The last time was two years ago. She is now twelve years old and doing fine. A little nervous, likely because she lost her mate, Shorty, about three years ago and has not gotten over it. She has been moved to a new enclosure that sees less of the public...

    Found a coyote, I think

Beautiful story. And now it turns out Mica is very similar to Sandy. Further evidence that coyotes are just basically wild dogs.

    Found a coyote, I think

I just got the results from a second DNA test on Mica. Here are the two test results side by side. As mentioned, I have no idea how accurate these tests are and Mica looks much more like a German Shepherd than a Border Collie or Cattle Dog. I've also added a picture of her at 4.5 months...

I agree. But here is the breed summary. I have no idea how accurate these are.

    Found a coyote, I think

Meet Mica. Our new Cattledog/Border Collie mix. She just turned four months old. I first met her when she was one week old and we brought her home at seven weeks. Much of this thread was comparing a coyote to a domestic dog and asking the question, what is the difference? Sandy was five...

    Found a coyote, I think

Southwest Wildlife has not yet, to my knowledge, been able to find her another mate. I've asked them to try. It has been interesting, if sad, to see her unsettled and nervous at the loss of Shorty. She seems somewhat lost and distracted. It will be eleven years in March, since we found her...

    Found a coyote, I think

Earlier, in my quest to learn about Sandy, and coyotes in general, I looked for stories from others that had experiences with them. One day a neighbor mentioned that her father, then in his mid nineties, had had a coyote as a boy. I asked her for more information and she said she would ask him...

    Found a coyote, I think

She was spayed about a month or so after arriving at Southwest. Breeding them is completely outside what they do as a rescue organization. Thanks for the fox link. This looks like the second step in the Russian fox experiments that developed tame foxes.

    Found a coyote, I think

Good Morning all! It's been about 2 1/2 years since I posted here about our lovely coyote, Sandy. We visited her again a few days ago and here are my thoughts about it: Every time we see her, it is an emotional experience. She brought so much joy, creativity and intelligence to the party...

How hot can ammo be safely stored?

I've just moved my ammo into a closed box trailer that is black in color. I'm afraid it is going to get pretty hot in there in the summer. It has roof vents, but they won't always be open. How hot can ammo, 357, 9mm, 5.56, etc, be and still be safe?

    Cocker Spaniels

Do any of you have a Cocker Spaniel as a pet? If so, what can you tell me about their character and compatibility? Are they fun and good companions? Easy to train? Healthy? Any recommendations for breeders in the Bay Area?

Does anyone know what brand of woodstove this is?

A friend just gave me this stove and I am looking for more information on it. All concrete lined, very well built, 8" double wall vent. Probably installed in about 1985. Thanks.

Looking for a good quality hand truck

I'm looking for a quality and heavy duty hand truck for general use around the place. It must have flat free tires, no plastic rims and preferably larger tires that can roll on dirt or gravel. Probably about 500 lbs max carried weight, but almost always less, and able to do it without breaking...

    Solar radiant heat project begins

I've been building our new home for a while now and with winter coming it's time to get the solar running. House is all closed up, but not insulated. I have a 8" slab with 3/4" PEX on 12" centers throughout, including the garage. Four thermostats. I'm going to get it running on a temporary...

    Pulling the well pump

Had to pull my friends well pump today. He came up with this roller and put it together on my tractor. It's a war surplus cable reel clamped to bucket forks. Works perfectly for pulling pumps with poly pipe.

    Sealing a concrete porch

I have an 800 sq ft covered concrete porch that I need to seal before winter. It's about 4 years old now and at about 5,000 ft elevation. I'm afraid it will start spalling if I don't seal it. Do you guys know of a good sealer? I'm not sure about Thompsons and I don't want to epoxy coat it...

    Diesel tanks and tractor enamel?

I have two 300 gallon heating oil tanks that I need to repaint. I'm going to sandblast and prime them first and am wondering if anyone has used the Tractor Supply, Tractor Enamel. They have in in Majic and Valspar. I'm thinking water base might not hold up as well if it gets some fuel on it...

    Challenger electrical problem

If it only blows the fuse on "glow" maybe it's a shorted glow plug. Remove the wires from the glow plugs and check the resistance from the terminal to the block. With the wires disconnected from the glow plugs does it still blow the fuse? If one of the plugs has very low resistance, it's the...

    Sand blaster recommendation

Do any of you have a recommendation for a good sand blaster? There seems to be a lot of brands. I've looked at Tractor Supply and Harbor Freight and a couple of other places. I have a 5 HP compressor and I am doing occasional steel fabrication. I also have two heating oil tanks that must be...

Went exploring yesterday in our "back yard"

Went for a spin with the dogs and went about 30 miles through the Pine Nut mountains. Up to about 9,000' It's finally getting nice out, but too soon for most of the greenery. We were looking for a lost trail connecting two canyons. We often see wild Mustangs, but not this trip, so I...

    Found a coyote, I think

My neighbor was out walking behind our two places the other day and found a baby puppy just a few days old. It was in a burn area with no brush at about 5,000 ft elevation. She put it in a paper bag with a rag in the bottom and fed her a bit with an eye dropper, then called us to come see and...

    TC29DA won't start

    TC 29DA squeal

I have a TC 29 DA with a manual tranny that has a very nasty squeal in, I think, the trans. At about 1000 to 1800 RPM or so, all of a sudden it starts and can be heard a ways away. Very annoying and sounds like a dry bearing. Won't do it in neutral, changes tone slightly when reved up and...
