UTV's and ATV's at work picture thread

We got about 14 - 15" of snow here Saturday. Normally, I would use the tractor and snowblower on a snowfall that big, but the neighbors with whom we share a driveway had some gravel put down recently, and I did not want to risk picking it up and blowing it off the driveway. I tried the Honda...

The seat on my 2001 NH TC 33D was not as bad as that, but getting to be a problem. When I looked at the cost of replacement seats, I decided to pass on that option. Lithium battery for tilt trailer?

Agreed. AGM batteries tend to hold their charge longer when sitting idle, and have a wider range of operating temperatures on the low end. I put a a group 27 Deep Cycle AGM battery in my dump trailer 5-1/2 years ago which is still doing well. I put an Optima Yellow top AGM in my tractor when...

What safety equipment do you have when running chainsaw?

Not putting on a show. In fact, I'm surprised at the number of people who don't regularly wear appropriate PPE when operating a chainsaw. I'm all for situational awareness (I'm a pilot and was a flight instructor for years: that phrase is something that was drummed in to me, and which I took...

Chainsaw helmet with face shield and hearing protection and full wrap chaps any time I'm running the saw. Most times I also wear cut resistant chainsaw boots. I put a similar patter square link chain on my Honda Pioneer 520 UTV. I wanted some traction for plowing snow, but was concerned about going with studded, since I did not want to tear up the paved loop of driveway. It's been working well so far.

I’ve used V-Bar ladder style, V-Bar Duo Grip, and now the studded Euro style (same style as what Lou is using) - all on the same tractor with the same tires used with all 3 styles of chains. I agree with Lou: the Euro style are by far the best for my use (and also the most expensive). I’ve...

    Tire chains on tractor tires

Forward traction with ladder chains (especially those with V-bars) is good. They worked well clearing snow from my driveway. However, the lateral traction was not so good for my use. I had to switch to the “Euro-style” chains for working on rougher terrain in the woods and on side hills.

I had a 2 HP motor on an 16 Ton electric Ramsplitter years ago. Milwaukee Battery Top Handle chainsaw

The Milwaukee M18 saws come with a 3/8"pitch, low profile, .043" gauge narrow kerf bar and chain. Since they are thinner than a regular bar, they tend to be more flexible. Trygg does make several different styles. I suppose some of them are smoother riding than others. Sooner or later, we're going to have to nail down the chain terminology. For Gordon, "H" means the same thing as the "Euro style". I always thought "H" was describing the Duo Grip chains.

That's one of the reasons I gave up on the Duo Grip chains and went with the Euro-style/H style chains like what Gordon pictured. I had Duo-Grip chains with V-bars: good forward traction and good lateral traction. However, operating at anything faster than a walk on harder surfaces (packed...

    Honda Pioneer 520 Initial Impressions

I went with the Honda P520 because I wanted reliable/predictable engine braking in our hills, especially when towing a heavy load. Most of the CVT transmission ATV/UTVs I've driven release when the engine slows leaving you with no engine braking. It's a little counter-intuitive to step on the...

How did you attach that to the bed?

Aerators and farm pond...how much maintenance?

You don't really want a surface bubbler. For best results, you want the aerator sitting at the bottom of the pond, so you aerate the whole water column. Some years I leave mine running year round (I'm in the Champlain Valley of Vermont). That keeps the surface of the pond from completely...

    Battery powered chainsaw

I can believe there are 50cc saws out there that the Ryobi can beat, if all you are measuring is time in a couple of cuts. I'd be surprised if it would beat the pro-level 50cc saws. Battery saws have their place. At almost 16 lbs for 50cc-type performance, that Ryobi is certainly not something...

How much trailer weight can my tractor tow?

I've not looked. My tractor is 22 year old, and I'm not currently in the market for another. I've read about brake controllers being available on tractors.

    Battery powered chainsaw

Per Ryobi, their 20" 40V saw uses the same motor as the 18" model. The 14" & 16" 40V saws use a smaller motor. I looked for a side-by side comparison with other saws. The only battery one I found was against a Milwaukee M18, but they used a standard 5.0 AH battery, rather than one of the...

How much trailer weight can my tractor tow?

I'm considering a weatherproof box, if I can find a good place to mount it. I also need to find the right box, so the manual activation leaver easily accessible when the box is open. I was a bit concerned about heat/ventilation, but I guess it won't be getting used continually or frequently, so...

How much trailer weight can my tractor tow?

I see several mentions of using a brake controller. Has anyone found a break controller that is weather-proof? I've searched for something I can mount on my open-station tractor, but not had any luck. (I did find one where the controller mounts remotely, so I could probably find a place...

Crossed cables while trying to jump start.

You've probably already checked this, but in addition to the fuses, I would check the battery itself. shorting it to another battery in reverse polarity can fry the battery.

Tractors and wood! Show your pics

If the wood in the totes is green, staking them a bit further apart is a good idea. It helps improve air circulation

I've not seen that one and not finding it in a quick search. Do you have a model number?
