    1948 8N Steering Box Slop

1, if you didn't replace the sector bushings, you didn't rebuild the box. Thrust bearings and sector bushings are the usual wear points, next is ballnut to wormshaft fit, next is sector tooth and ballnut tooth wear.. Its rare, but I have seen teeth worn thin to a razors edge, no repair only...

    1948 8N Steering Box Slop

I have a 1949( I know the title says 1948) 8N with the old style steering box.Not having the funds to purchase a newer type box,I rebuilt the old one. After rebuild I can turn the steering ONE whole turn without wheels moving. I replaced everything but the sector bushings and the machinist said...

    Problems Reinstalling MF-50 Governor

I took lots of pictures when I disassembled the Z-134 in my MF-50, but I have a problem I did not document. I replaced the camshaft ( worn out) and the camshaft gear( worn out). The crank gear did not look too bad and did not want to come off. When I put the new cam gear on, everything was nice...

    Valve seals on Z 134 MF 50

Opps. Found them. They were buried in the gasket set. Four little tiny seals, but they are just O rings. Not like OEM. Still, they should work.

    Valve seals on Z 134 MF 50

I am rebuilding a MF 50 with z 134 Engine. I have the rebuilding kit for the head, but there were no valve seals included. When I disassembled the valves, the valves had seals on them ( small 0 ring type.) It appears that they are not available in aftermarket, and some z-134 engines did not have...

Confusion over correct paint color MF 50

Kid I found " Flint Gray Metallic" at www.equipmentcolor.com and it was listed as a Minn.Moline color, but it looks like MF. I also saw your post on another thread about the metallic particles and keeping them mixed while spraying. Was that an issue for you. I am spraying on the rough metal...

Confusion over correct paint color MF 50

That's what was confusing me. I assumed ( which will always get you in trouble) that one spray did both inside and out.

Confusion over correct paint color MF 50

Thanks Kid for your detailed response. It really helped me out. I went and took a down on my knees, close up look at the rims on my tractor and there it was; a tiny patch of silver about the size of a dime. Looks like someone went to a great deal of trouble to paint it all red. As I put it back...

Confusion over correct paint color MF 50

My 1958 MF 50 ser# CGM519195 with z134 ser# 670808 is solid red with no gray or silver. I thought someone spray painted it red but inside the engine and bell housing are red. The valve cover has never had red on it and looks like a light gold or dark silver. The gas tank and under the hood are...

    tractor shelter

Don't knock the tarp! I am rebuilding my tractor and I have no shelter. I ran 3/8 steel cable between two trees and put on a heavy duty silver tarp like a pup tent. It is weighted down on the edges with rocks and open at the ends. I can get up under it to work or it's really easy to take off. It...

Replace governor on MF 50 gas?

I have taken the timing cover off of my z134 getting it cleaned up to start rebuild. I had planned on replacing governor as a preventative part of the rebuild. Looking at it, it appears to be fine. No broken tabs or cracks. On the new governors you are supposed to put the shim behind it on the...

    Governor for MF50 Z-134 replacement

I am slowly aquiring the parts to totally rebuild my 1958 MF50 Hi-Arch with a Z-134 gas engine. I have removed everything from the transmission forward and am replacing every bushing, bearing, joint, etc. Even though I have not removed the timing cover to check it, I plan on just replacing the...

    Hello from SC

Looks like I found the place for information! My 16 year old son and I are restoring a MF 50 Hi Arch(Crop?) that I have had for 20 years. He used to sit on my knee while I bush hogged with it. It's completely worn out and common sense would dictate that I park it and buy another used one. I...
