A reliable oil pressure gauge illustrates clearly why no engine, diesel or otherwise, should be run at idle for any appreciable amount of time. Idle rpm is where you will see the lowest oil pressure. The pressure can fall off significantly below 1,000 rpm on most engines.

You MUST "fiddle" with that drain valve! Leaving condensate sitting in an air reservoir will damage it due to corrosion! I suggest that you use the air nozzle that you blow the ZTR off with to let most of the pressure out then open the drain. But be ready because, if you've never drained it...

I normally recommend to never use ether as it is so volatile it explodes in the cylinder and WILL cause damage. But, in an emergency, it's very effective. WD 40 is often used in diesel shops for diagnosis purposes and is less likely to cause damage to pistons and rings.
