    Returning batteries for warranty claim

X2 for VR failed. Alternator allowed to over charge and cook your batteries. On that truck though, I believe that the regulator is integral to the alternator so you're likely going to be forced to buy both together. 99 was around the year model Ford and others went to "smart charging" and put...

Why so much tongue weight on 22' car hauler trailers?

Well, I know from experience that you DO NOT want that much trailer and load STEERING for you if you get the tongue weight too low! That bad boy will toss you around like a puppy shaking a rope if it doesn't have enough on the tongue. One method of countering the high headlights would be old...

What is the oddest machine you have worked on or operated

My boss was a "think outside the box" guy and loved repurposing heavy equipment he would buy at auction. One day I arrived at the jobsite to my new assignment....a Ray-Go mining road grader with a 24 ft. wide blade. "Get it running" So I did.

What is the oddest machine you have worked on or operated

That's a "little" one. It "only" digs and hauls 31 cubic yards of dirt. My company commonly used 657 B Cat scrapers....almost double the dirt of the 631 !

What is the oddest machine you have worked on or operated

I believe that the fish wheel has been pretty much put out of business on rivers in Alaska because of overharvesting of salmon and low fish counts. 1st nation folks used the fish for eating and feeding their sled dogs.

    Tractor smoking

A reliable oil pressure gauge illustrates clearly why no engine, diesel or otherwise, should be run at idle for any appreciable amount of time. Idle rpm is where you will see the lowest oil pressure. The pressure can fall off significantly below 1,000 rpm on most engines.

    Tractor smoking

First thing I would want to know is if there's any fuel finding it's way into the engine oil? Fuel dilution of the oil will cause smoking like this and kill the engine bearings quick. Running a diesel engine in cold weather, with a bad thermostat can also cause smoking. It might never get up...

Looking for inexpensive AW46 - Hydraulic Oil

It's been a minute or decade or two since I was a heavy equipment field mechanic. I worked for a fairly large grading contractor that used a wide range of track hoes, dozers, rock trucks, scrapers, tractors, pumps, graders and so on. Cats, and (ahem...about to date myself) Terex mostly with some...

    John Deere 855/856 hard starting

Yes, agree, but I don't know this engine AND it IS an "older" model tractor. Although, I probably SHOULD have stressed, instead, that TIGHT valves can be MUCH MORE DESTRUCTIVE than "loose" valves. At any rate, they should be adjusted with care.

    Backhoe installation question

Yeah, I can just picture it now... ...you saying "and I have shop air right nearby to make it easier"... And their guy, pen in hand, nodding his head and mumbling "oh, yeah?" "good, that's great!"... ... As he puts the finishing touches on someone else's billing invoice. Oh my!
  15. J

    John Deere 855/856 hard starting

Careful with those valves! IF....you.get it wrong, it could cause damage. Contrary to what I have read here, valves typically don't always get "loose" but, instead, get "tight" when they wear. Meaning that the clearance between rocker arm and valve stem end is less...not more. This is because...

Bought a New L3902, turned out to be a 2019

I certainly don't know and have no advice about how to proceed EXCEPT that, if some sort of FRAUD has been committed against you in this, I would NOT "look the other way" at all. I agree with others about bypassing the dealer and communicate instead with Kubota corporate directly to get some...

Removing Oil stains on asphalt driveway

You might try spot testing using WD-40 and then washing that off with detergent solution. Not sure that would work here but I've done that on upholstery before to clean oil stains and it worked great. Good luck.

Heavy oil leak – possible it's the filter?

Don't mean to worry you but that filter seal falling out might have occurred because it was deformed by the water/oil "mix". Kubota L295 for 900$ worth it?

Well, all I can say is Why haven't you given him the money yet??? And, I know it's apples~n~oranges but the shop manual I bought, for way too much money, from Kubota dealer, for my B7200, years ago, isn't worth the paper it was printed on. Would be completely useless for doing any major work...

Is 4 year old diesel fuel any good?

Algae grows in water, not fuel. So, no water, no algae. Having said that though.... Fuel sits atop water. That means IF there is water in your tank, it sits at the bottom. Right where the end of the pick up tube for your lift pump is. So....water in tank means that water AND any "bugs" (algae)...

Anyone go from gas to electric, then back to gas?

I recently purchased an electric weed eater and an electric chainsaw. Both are Greenworks 80 volt tools with interchangeable batteries. I chose to go that route PRIMARILY because I seldom need either and dealing with today's crappy gas problems has me hacked off. Secondarily, the prices for...

    Brush hog accident(s)

My rubber skirts started chunking out and I ignored it for a time until I mowed over a small pile of DG with pebbles in it. After being "shotgunned" to the back of my head and neck, I fabricated bolt on chain guards out of angle iron and 5/16" chain. Put that welder to work!

Interesting conversation with a Ram technician at dealer service dept.

You gotta see what Kia did with their 2.0l 4 cylinders that SOME people had issues with. They are still putting in free engines for cars that had zip-nada maintenance. I had a 2013 Optima 2.0l that I maintained myself that I drove the B-geez out of. I went over 100mph in that car more than...

    oil for air compressor

You MUST "fiddle" with that drain valve! Leaving condensate sitting in an air reservoir will damage it due to corrosion! I suggest that you use the air nozzle that you blow the ZTR off with to let most of the pressure out then open the drain. But be ready because, if you've never drained it...

    LX2610 rear hydro puzzle

Kubota 3910 ran out of water and will not run

I don't know but wondering if this model has a low coolant sensor? If so, it might go into engine protection mode with coolant loss and stop the engine. Some systems won't then allow restart until fault is corrected, coolant is present, and codes are cleared. Your friend would be lucky if...

What is the best way to level truck when towing?

Air bags. Some assembly required. You will need: A RELIABLE compressor. An air storage tank. Air lines Right and left height control valves Bags of proper proportion. I recommend using control valves from a heavy truck or bus suspension system. They are more accurate and robust than the junk...

    Starting fluid

I normally recommend to never use ether as it is so volatile it explodes in the cylinder and WILL cause damage. But, in an emergency, it's very effective. WD 40 is often used in diesel shops for diagnosis purposes and is less likely to cause damage to pistons and rings.

Sealed or serviceable bearing: your choice?

Keeping mice out of your tractors engine bay over the winter and summer too.

Last I checked, the Animal shelters don't allow cat adoption to people in my zip. It's because cats quickly become coyote poop where I live. Anyway, I fear attracting skunks and coons too much to leave food out. Leaving hoods open stops nesting in engine compartments but mice still invade...

Hi, I work on a lot of small outboard engines...mostly 4 stroke...and I like Sea Foam too so I'm not knocking the product. Spark plugs fouling on Massey Ferguson MF 35 petrol gasoline 87mm Standard engine

Hi, I agree with the guy that suggested valve seals. Here's why: You notice the problem occurs mostly at idle/low rpm and seems to clear while working the engine hard. The engine creates steady, high vacuum at low speed and less compression. This sets up a situation where oil is most likely to...
