    Repairing Drilled Engine Block

I would use J B Weld ! I've had good experience with it on my 1946 Willys CJ-2A Jeep repairing the front Head Bolt that got stripped. It comes out like cast iron ! If it is drilled right into the whole block - I would try it even inside the bore hole. If it doesn't pan out and provide the...

    Home electrical

The Earth is the ground !! If you touch the ground wire or buss and you are better grounded - you will complete the circuit and get electrocuted. I had the experience of getting shocked on a ground wire from my tv set when I went to fix a rusting ground on my existing outside antenna and I was...

    Gasoline storage

I bought this 14 gallon gas (can/container) about 10 years ago. The only problem I had was that the hose disintegrated and I bought a new hose at NAPA. My problem is/was getting better diesel cans - but found these on sale at Tractor Supply. I treat all my gas and diesel with the appropriate...

MX5400....I hate the seat safety switch

I would physically move the switch inside the seat closer to your body - so that your weight would close the switch easier. Right now it looks like when they made the seat - the switch was put too low and it needs a lot more weight to close the circuit - Depending if the switch is indeed an...

Blocking the clutch pedal when parked?

My 1946 Jeep Willys CJ-2A has never had the clutch stick due to rust. However my tiller for my JD Tractor (from Tractor Supply has instructions after use to loosen the clutch so that it does not stick. First I hear that this happens. My JD 1025R does not have a clutch - so no worry there.

    Grease shortage

Check out TRC (Texas Refinery Corp) the best grease for EVERYTHING ! It stays on and is just-about waterproof. I use it everywhere. Try the 880 C&C or the Paragon 3000 ! Since 1922 !!

Publishing Loader Capacity Numbers That Far Exceed The Capacity Of The Axles

What is missing here ? THE BALLAST BOX !!! I never ever use my (2018) 1025R without the ballast box - which is fully loaded with close to 400#s. That differential lowers the front axle amount by a large number. The only time the box is not on is when I have the tiller on or the box blade...

    home shop lathe

I have a Shopsmith V (actually 2) One is the regular lathe with the new add-on head w/up to 10,000 rpm and the other one is the OLD head on a separate home-made stand where I put the 4" belt sander and the Bandsaw on it. This way I don't have to remove these when I need them - they're always...

    Tractor Died While Blowing Snow!

Wow ! Let it idle for an hour and it was only -2° F. It was -6 the other day (coldest day yet for us) and I let it idle for about 10 - 15 seconds and off I go snowblow. I had a problem with it cutting out the engine with the blower on and going into reverse (when it came back from a warranty...

    Waste Oil

They used to do this here in Maine. Now they use salt to cut down the dust in dirt roads. It is not done much - but I saw one doing it a couple weeks ago. Most roads are hot-topped now, but some back farm roads get it done. From Aroostook County - the largest county East of the Mississippi.

    Clamp on Bucket Forks

I have a set of the 42" (fork pallet length) with the bolts on top. Those bolts on top are in the way and stops going into a pallet (less about 4"). That is the only problem that I've had. I have used them only once so far. It does work - but you have to be very careful !!

Today, would you buy an EV vehicle.

No ! I think that in a few years you will see problems with electric vehicles - whereas - when the time comes to charging, you will start encountering brownouts when everyone gets home from work and plug in their vehicles. Soon they will start applying charges to electricity use to help pay...

Can anyone link me to a definition of a "firm whack"?

When my 1946 Willys Jeep CJ-2A starter stuck last year - I hit it with a hammer as hard as I could - and - it would not dislodge the starter. I had to loosen the bolts and then heard the click when it (the bendix) let go ! It did not hurt the starter - but - I did tear it apart and oiled it...

I thought Sthil made a good saw?

I bought my 026 in July 1990 and it still goes very good. My muffler fell off a few times and that bolt finally would not keep on. I had to tap the threads to the next size and it worked out better. Best saw I ever bought. I use it alot around the house and on my 59 acres of woods. I used...

How far and high can I throw snow?

Hello there out across the country. The height thing is very important for safety around power lines. Just make sure that your blower does not reach that high !! You don't want to get zapped !! With no power lines around - any height is good as long as its with-the-wind ! Be safe and have fun !

TYM T474 vs John Deere 4044M

I bought my first-ever tractor (not a lawn tractor) in Jan 2018 JD 1025R. I have over 650 hours on it (going to 700 soon) and I have a front snowblower 54", a ballast weight on the 3 pt, a 4' tiller and a 5' rear box blade. I am truly amazed with what I can do with this tractor. I also have a...

What causes this pine tree problem?

It looks like a standing dead tree that has died off quite a few years ago and the bugs have been feeding for a long time. I am not a forester but I do have lots of dead trees on my land that are still standing and that is what I see. I have a 59 acre wood lot that I play in with my tractor and...

    B2150 4x4, motor won't turn

Check your starter ! My bendix stuck on my 1946 Willys CJ-2A and it would not turn - just one click and I couldn't turn the engine even with a wrench. Being so old, I was sure that the engine had frozen - after just coming down the hill a few minutes before. I even hammered on the starter to...

Treating diesel in north Texas winters

I store mine in 5 gal plastic Diesel containers from Tractor Supply. I treat the diesel only when it is slow-starting around -15 or -20 below 0 F. I use the white bottle POWER SERVICE DIESEL fuel supplement as recommended by my JD dealer. That bottle will last me years !!! The first 2 years, I...

    Exploding tractor battery!

FYI, one thing to do after charging a battery is to make sure that it has been allowed to air out the gasses created when charging. I know we are supposed to do that - but - being human, we forget. It could also be a short in the battery (defective). I saw online where one had a battery...

why so many jeeps now on road?

As seen in the Collector's Library JEEP book by Jim Allen (ISBN 0-7603-1979-0) - in 1944 the CJ2 Jeep and the Agrijeep were created (as of the books printing in 2004) page 49 & 50. Mine is Serial # 57578 which was the 47,578th made in 1946 page 54. My son has one also and his is 69,907. Our...

why so many jeeps now on road?

Up here in Northern Maine, Jeeps have been a given forever ! I got mine back in 1973 for $100.00 not working or roadworthy. 1946 CJ-2A with 76,000 miles at the time. I have since rebuilt it 2 times and had the L-4 re-built at a shop and now have over 90,000 miles on it and it still only has 1...

    Ideas for repairing radiator? REPAIRED!

I've used this exact J-B Weld on the front head bolt (stud) on my 1946 Willys CJ2-A to seal it from the water and to re-thread the hole. Yes, it works in water (after letting it dry hard). I torqued the head bolt nuts and it has not leaked since 2008. I have not tried the other formulas that...

    Always Set Parking Brake!

I have a JD1025R and I used to set it very hard and it split the connection (aluminum) from the pedal to the rear connection and brakes were gone. It split right on the shaft. They fixed it OK with a new part. I can't understand why they would have wanted to save money & weight on such an...

    Elevation = rough start up..?

I have a JD 1025R with over 600 hours and it starts fine in the summer with the preheater used once and the fuel/air at about halfway. I'm at 750' above sea level. In the winter when it gets to -10 to -30 below I use the preheater 3 or 4 times and it starts fine. I have not had any starting...

What additives do you use in your fuel and engines?

I use TRC DZL-PEP with AAT year-round in my JD 1025R - about .125 ounce ( 5/8 ounce per 5 gallon). It keeps the engine clean - keeps the diesel clean and makes it start OK down to 20 below zero. TRC also has a special formula to thaw out the diesel (which I don't need so far). I use their...

I thought Sthil made a good saw?

I have a Stihl 026 that I bought new in 1990 and it still runs as good as when I bought it. So far I have had to replace the muffler and the air filter this year. Besides chains and bars, that is all I have ever had to replace in 31 years cutting my firewood, working my land, making trails in...

    Forward Exit Horizontal Exhaust??

I have a John Deere 1025R that I put an upright pipe on with a flex cap on top and I do have the surround cabin. Before I fixed it up - the exhaust would be down and forward - which heated up the front snowblower in the winter and made quite a mess of re-frozn snow packed in the blower...
