Our tractor was being used to brush hog the field. It began to show a little rise in temp so my BIL drove it back to the barn to clean the radiator screen - it was covered with dust and five debris. At the time he parked it, it was running just fine. He turned off the tractor and cleaned it and...
We have a TC40D with FEL and BH.
We were using the tractor when, suddenly, with no warning, the FEL quit working. No response to the control at all. There does not seem to be a broken line and no fluid spill was seen.
I tried to back the tractor out from where I was working since the rake on...

We have a NH Workmaster 45 2W Gear Drive that makes a slight noise when the PTO is engaged. The noise is not very loud and almost sounds like a slight "whistle". It only makes the sound when the PTO is engaged and even then, more so when it is under load then just engaging it to listen for the...

We are looking at substantial repairs on our NH TC40D with FEL/BH
It seems JD no longer makes the 110 and Kubota no longer makes the L39
So, as tractor backhoes go, I would rather one with a "turn around" seat instead of a separate seat for the hoe. I do not want a 3-pt hoe.
Still looking in...
On the way home with the tractor on the trailer we lost a tire. Didn't have a spare. It took us a while, but we ended up pulling the other front tire off the trailer and, after re positioning the tractor, headed home with tires only on the rear axle. We were 45 miles from home and drove no...
Hurricane Hermine - Are you in it's path?
So far we have not seen too much from this storm. We are getting some rain.
It is possible that, later tonight, we may get some heavy rain and strong winds - we'll see what happens.
If you are in the path - share your experiences and photos ....
We have a NH TC40D with a front loader and a BH. It usually lives at my place, but it is actually shared with my in-laws (my father-in-law actually paid for it).
My BIL needed it so I made sure it was working and ready to leave my place. They came and picked it up on a Wed. My FIL called me on...
We have a NH TC40D with a NH 16LA Front Loader
The stick to operate the loader is to the right of the seat. Side-to-side movement makes the bucket curl/dump. Forward/Back is the lift operation. It has been working just fine .... until yesterday
Now, when you lift, it will raise the bucket...
We have a NH TC40D with a front loader and backhoe.
I seems like we may be getting diesel in the crankcase oil - not totally sure, but when we changed the oil today it had far more in there then it should have - and it smelled a bit like diesel. We have also noticed that the fuel does not see...
The power steering was working just fine. We were using the tractor and the power steering had two problems. It seemed to quit steering then it blew what I think is the return line from the steering piston. It is the line that has a hose clamp on it.
We re-secured the line and tightened the...
Seems we need to replace the front pinion shaft for the 4wd. Ours is stripped where the drive shaft collar slides on.
The front wheels/axle seem to work just fine in 2wd.
We are hoping that there is no damage inside the front differential - it has been suggested that the shaft stripped from...
We started having problems with our starter on the New Holland 40D. It would click and click and finally start. What a pain.
We took the started off and had it serviced/repaired. He did find some problems and fixed it. When we first put it back on it seemed like it would be fine ..... then...
We have the MF 240 and had to install a clutch.
Before the new clutch we cluld not shift the gears with the tractor running. PTO worked OK.
Now, with the new clutch, the gears work just fine but we cannot turn the PTO on with the tractor running?
Any help would be appreciated.
We had the top drive belt (the small one) burn up on our machine. Found our that the spring to the idler wheel was the problem. We fixed that and replaced the belt(s) - we actually replaced all the belts.
When we put it back together it worked great. Mowed for half a day. Now, it keeps throwing...
On our TC40D we have a starter problem. Sometimes it will only "click". After several attempts with the key, it will start. We thought "solenoid". We pulled the starter and took it to someone we know who has fixed starters and alternators for 40+ years (it is his business) and he did find...
The other day we saw a couple guys out mowing with some older model tractors ... you know, the ones with the metal seats that put the driver nearly over the 3-point lift.
They each had a mid-mount mower lashed under the tractor with chains and home-made brackets. They also had belts running to...
We have a NH TC40D with a FEL and BH.
Using it today I found a new problem ... I was trying to dig out a stump and when I positioned the tractor I discovered that the FEL will no longer lift the front off the ground. Even using the "tilt", it would not lift the front off the ground - it used...

Here is the situation ...
An irrigation well with a 4" submersible pump was tripping the "overload" on the bottom of the controller. When I reset the overload, it would run and pump water. After a minute or two of running the pipe coming from the well would begin to "rattle" and even "shake"...
A 3PH mower runs from the PTO. Here is the idea ...
Would it be possible to mount a gas or diesel engine on the mower to drive the mower. Then, build a "skid steer" type mount onto the mower so that it could be mounted onto the front of the tractor? If so mounted, should the mount be on the...
This is an irrigation well. It is a 4" well that has a 5HP submersible 3-wire pump with the controller located above ground. It has a "Well-Xtrol" bladder tank. It has 2" drop pipe feeding a 2 1/2" mainline. There is a 2" in-line filter between the well and where the tank is located. It had been...
We bought our New Holland TC40D HST 4WD used and I was wondering what the recommended, if any, RPM reading should be to have the tractor work most effectively.
Can anyone recommend a good company or resource for a Solar Company that could/would install a "solar farm" on available property.
I would be interested in offering some acreage to such a venture.
What is the strangest, oddest, weirdest close call you have had on your tractor without any tragic results?
I'll start it off ...
We used to have a Case 420BD Backhoe. (this was quite a number of years ago) and I was digging a rather large hole with the hoe. I had repositioned the tractor...
Well, I was digging and all the sudden "POP" and the bucket dropped. The ram on the boom arm broke (Woods BH 70-X Sub-frame Backhoe
) According to Woods, the specs of this Hydraulic cylinder 2.5 x 1.25 x 15.50 Retracted length 26.25in.
I have included some pics. A couple are a bit hard to see...
On a 4" submersible pump I was asked to look at today I took ohms reading of the wires that go from the controller to the pump. The controller has recommended readings listed inside the cover.
Red/Yellow wires should read 1.8-2.2 ohms - Pump read 6.8
Black/Yellow wires should read .68-1 ohms -...
We have a used NH TC40D with a Sub-frame Backhoe - we do not have the manual.
The remotes used to operate the BH are installed through one of the controls to the right of the seat. These controls have picture-indicators that show them to be controls for cylinders, perhaps a top link, since they...
Anyone ever notice the vast amount of non-working tractors and/or equipment?
What I am referring to are the tractors and attachments that are sitting and rusting away in many fields and/or near barns. Funny thing is, if you ask the owner/farmer if they would like the "junk" removed they all...
As the SIG shows, we have a MF240 2WD. It spends a great deal of time parked since getting the Mahindra.
We have someone interested in the MF. He has offered $1600. The tractor is fully functional. The 3PT and the PTO work just fine, There is a leak in the power steering we have not yet fixed...
We have a 3 point spray attachment that is several years old. The pump still works just fine but the tank has given up.
It has developed cracks from several years of weather and use and repairs were unsuccessful. With the cost of a new sprayer we thought if we could just replace the holding...
We recently made some changes with our tractors. We had traded in a rather old Ford 1900 for a new Mahindra 4525 2WD gear tractor. The tractor works just fine for the job it was purchased for but we had continuing electrical problems. Hopefully they are now fixed. Seems that a fender mounted...
I need some specific help with this one. This is not the typical "It isn't working" type thread.
We have a Electric Fence Controller Model #680-A. It is quite old. It has on it "The Prime MFG Co. Milwaukee, Wis" and says "The Original Electric Fence Controller".
We are looking for info on...
We did it. Got rid of the FarmTrac DTC360 TLB. We traded it in on a New Holland TC40D with a FEL and a BH.
The FarmTrac had a real clutch problem. It was a 2005 and we already changed the clutch twice and it needed it again.
The TC40D is HST.
I will try to explain this clearly but feel free to ask for further info if needed.
By brother-in-law lives in a Mobile Home with metal exterior. He has been living in this home for several years without any problems. The home has a four-wire connection (2 hots, common, ground) coming from a...
With the cold weather coming on and the increase in discussions of various snow removal equipment, why don't those of us who live where snow is not a problem (we sure don't need no snow equipment in Florida) share what things we have bought with the money we DID NOT spend on snow removal...
This just started today.
We have a FarmTrac DTC 360 made by LS. It has a Mitsubishi diesel engine.
It has run great with no problems until today. While using the front loader for some clearing work (something we have done quite a bit), the tractor started just shutting off.
It will be running...

Just bought a DRT 900 tiller. So far ... so good.
While looking at them I saw the DRT 900E. The "E" is for electric start. The thing is, the "electric start" is AC, not DC. The tiller does not have a battery, you have to plug an extension cord into the front of it for the electric start...
We just got a Mahindra 4525 2WD gear tractor for use on the farm. They delivered it this morning.
Will move it to the farm tomorrow and bring the Massey home. Can't wait to see how it cuts the ground and plants the seed
We have a couple of tires that keep losing air. The leak is slow enough that it does not show up even in a water bath.
Has anyone tried using "Slime" tire sealant in their tractor tires? Does it work? How much would one use in the back tires?
Well, we got our first cold weather the other morning.
I was out on my route and was in and out of many ACE Hardware stores and Tractor places of various brands.
I looked ... even asked ... and no one had any snow blowers available. Not free standing or 3PH or SS type.
I had one...
We have a Lincoln wire welder from Home Depot. It has been working just fine. Now the wire won't feed.
We put on a new tip. The wire is not stuck in the cable. We did some trouble shooting.
When you press the trigger, the box makes a clicking/thunking sound, like a relay kicking in, but it...
We have a 2005 Farmtrac 360 DTC that has a broken front grill area.
I know ... this is a Montana board. The FT 360 equates to a Montana 3840. I may have to paint the new parts if we find them in green, but I think I can find some Orange paint.
I have asked in the FT thread and no help yet, so...
OK. By way of introducing this thread:
One week a month I deliver a free paper to a vast area of north-central Fl. On my route I stop at several tractor stores and I see a lot of tractors.
I have been following several thread lately and some of them have had to do with buying a new tractor. In...
I spend a bit of time on the road so I listen to audio books (got tired of radio)
The book I was listening to today had a portion that made me think of this board - especially with the experiences some of us have had.
The main character of the story went to his cabin in the country to relax...
We have a 2005 with the front grill a bit damaged ;) and the local Montana Dealer says that the part is Out-of-stock with Montana.
I have included a couple of pics that shows what is missing :ashamed: from the front of the machine.
We (my father-in-law and me) were looking at the TLB 39/45 series. We were trying to decide between the GS and the HST. We had three dealers vying for our business.
First, though we had to do something with our Farmtrac DTC 360. After determining that a trade-in was out of the question (value...
We have a Farmtrac 360 DTC FEL/BH we haul with a 21' equipment trailer. I pull this with my 2007 Nissan Titan and a rear hitch.
We are planning on trading up to a Kubota TLB. He are looking at the L39 and the L45. These I can pull.
However, we have been offered an exceptionally good deal on...
I was recently told that Kubota has discontinued the L39 TLB.
Of course, this came from a Kubota salesman that wanted me to buy the L45.
He told me that there are still unsold L39's in the wharehouse, so they can still sell them. But, that when they are gone, they will not configure the L39 as...
When we turn the key on, the little glow plug indicator no longer comes on. I switched the bulb with another light that does work and the other light still works and not the GPI - so - it is not the bulb.
The tractor still starts, but it really takes a while sometimes and longer that it used to...
We currently have a Farmtrac 360 DTC with a FEL/BH. The tractor runs just fine and seems quite strong. Though FEL/BH connects with a sub-frame and digs adequately, there are things about this tractor that we are not happy with. The BH digs a bit slow and the FEL has needed some "upgrades" since...
We are thinking of trading our Farmtrac 360 FEL/BH for a Kubota.
We are looking at the L39 or the L45
The local dealer did try and make us a deal on the M59, but I transport the tractor with my Nissan Titan and it will not pull the M59 (not legally anyway)
Please give us pros/cons as to what...
We have a Farmtrac 360DTC with a FEL and a Backhoe. The main use for this tractor is for these attachments.
The tractor has a 3-point hitch, but we have never fully assembled it. I looks like it requires taking the BH off and some of the bracketing to release a lock that prevents the hitch from...
It would be more accurate to say that we are "out of a clutch."
Here's the deal ...
We have a Farmtrac 360 DTC with a front loader and a backhoe. It is a 2005 model. We use it mostly with the front loader. Last October it started working a bit odd. It seemed to have no power. I came here to...
Just wanted to "thanks" those who responded to this request here and in the similar thread in another post.
Special thanks to SESS and the gang at Southern Equipment (Center Hill, Fl). They not only helped diagnose the problem ... they fixed it!
After a friendly and informative conversation on...

It was used the day before and was evidently working normal (my brother was using it). Then I went to use it the next morning. There were problems:
