I have a recently purchased 2008 CAT 297C multiterrain loader, and the AC seems to need recharging.

I am new to this machine, and cannot find access to the AC charging ports. I don't even know how to raise the cab.

1. Do you have a good source for 'out of print' repair/service manuals for CAT?
2. Do you know where the AC charging ports are located on a 2008 297C? I've seen one video above track on one side, but that is on an 'updated' model, and I don't have the same access on my machine. The only thing I can think of is that it is under the cab somewhere, as it isn't in the engine compartment and I cannot find any other 'removable' access panels.
3. Do you know how to raise the cab?

I do not know if this has been done, but you should check you tube online. I have had lots of questions answered.

I've checked without success. The one video I found, was the updated model which didn't represent my machine.

I see that my go-to site seems to have purged everything Cat from the menu, might try this one and see if it pans out.

Hi there,

  1. For out-of-print repair/service manuals for CAT machines, a good option is Reliable Store. They have digital copies of Caterpillar workshop and service manuals that cover different models, including loaders like yours.
  2. On the CAT 297C (2008 model), the A/C charging ports are not located in the engine bay like on newer updates. They are typically under the cab area. You’ll need to lift the cab to gain access, as the lines and ports are routed along the inside frame. Once the cab is raised, you should be able to spot the high- and low-pressure ports near the evaporator lines.
  3. To raise the cab, first make sure the loader arms are fully lowered and the engine is off. Remove the cab locking bolts (usually found at the front corners inside the cab, near the floor plates). After releasing those bolts, you can carefully tilt the cab back—some models have a handle or latch to help. It’s best to have someone assist you since the cab can be heavy.

If you want step-by-step visuals, the service manual will show you exact port locations and safe cab-tilting instructions, which is why I recommend getting the manual from the site above.
