Ford 4500
Picked up a well used gas 4500 last year that runs but has some carb and fuel issues. Doesn't like to rev past idle. I took apart the Holley carb and after watching a rebuild video on it noticed it was plainly missing what is called a "delicate" brass metering tube about 1 1/2"s long located inside the removeable plunger housing within the fuel bowl. The video I watched stated that if the metering tube was damaged the only recourse was to find a donor carburetor because it's unrepairable.

Does anyone know if there is a source for this tube? Hate to throw away what otherwise looks to be a good carburetor for something as trivial as this. Seems I could press another one right in there. And the tube isn't broken off, it's totally gone. The Carburetor is a C9NN9510C List4111 1

Also it appears whoever worked on this tractor before bypassed the fuel lift pump out of the system and is feeding the carb just by gravity, which to me looks like it should work, if anything I can add an inline electric fuel pump for now to get by if necessary but I am curious if anyone has any thoughts or experience with operating a 4000 gas tractor without it's fuel pump.

I'll probably post this question on several of the forums I found to see what kind of answers I get.

If you can afford it, I’d bite the bullet and buy a zenith carburetor for a 4000 3 cylinder. It’s the same carb, same engine.

Those Holley carburetors are a notorious PITA. The float height is extremely sensitive and those metering valves are a “fuel pincher” device- the idea is that it acts as a tiny fuel pump that sprays an extra shot of fuel to increase power when needed.

They very seldom work properly and lead to power lag issues- either when increasing RPM or the governor opens the throttle. Not ideal

Steiner tractor should have one.

Hope this helps

Sorry for the long hiatus between posts but going to try to stick with the Holley for now, I have several options available to me with Holley carbs and I think I can even replace the missing brass metering tube on my original for cheap and have it for a backup.
